Year Seven Forensics Excursion

On Friday 26th November, thirty one enthusiastic Year Seven students took part in a forensics excursion at Swinburne University. Students who had shown an interest in Science throughout the year as well as those who took part in the Victorian High Ability Program were invited to attend.

We were given a crime to solve and students had to pull together all their best detective skills to catch the guilty party. Students were given access to the suspects’ interviews, examined the crime scene and then used scientific principles to examine the evidence. They dusted for fingerprints, tested soil and shoe samples, analysed chromatography samples and even subjected each other to polygraph (lie detector) tests.

As we boarded the bus to return to MGC we could feel relieved that our Year Seven students had kept our Melbourne streets safe by convicting the right suspect.
