Boarding News

As the sun sets on Term 4, we can all reflect on the year that was. Again, our resilience was tested and now that the rain has finally come (and stayed) some of our families are challenged again. Regardless of all this, our community members have supported each other throughout.

The Kinross Wolaroi School boarding community is a special one and I am certainly going to miss the families I have got to know so well over the past 15 years. I have learnt during my time that a successful and meaningful boarding environment must centre on a cohesive community which is at the school’s heart. It is one where the school sees boarding as an essential component in its fabric and culture, ensuring that its promotion and development are priorities. It is vital that each member of the community feel safe, secure, happy and valued. At Kinross Wolaroi School we strive to create an environment that is as much like a home away from home as possible, while simultaneously promoting the school’s core values. Kinross Wolaroi boarding is a place where individual rights are celebrated, and personal responsibility is encouraged within a context that fosters a sense of belonging.

Boarding is at the heart of who we are, and I firmly believe that the academic timetable is not the only place where learning takes place. Instead, after hours, within our boarding houses, life’s lessons are taught, and lifelong friendships are developed. We aim to create an environment where trust, honesty and transparency are the keys to success. Many of our boarders will start together in Year 7 and be standing next to each other on their wedding day. Boarding is a special and privileged place where strong bonds are formed that genuinely last a lifetime.

I’d like to wish everyone all the best for an enjoyable and safe Christmas holiday. I will truly miss Kinross Wolaroi School and look forward to catching up as our paths cross into the future.
