Learning to Lead

The Year 6 leaders have been on a journey in developing their understanding of effective leadership, and how they can use their own leadership abilities to serve the Emmaus Christian College community. Some of the ways that the Year 6 leaders have developed their leadership abilities has been through:

  • weekly leadership meetings
  • being MCs for Junior School assemblies
  • leading their Houses in various sporting competitions
  • creating fun and engaging student events and clubs for Junior School and
  • helping to lead Principal Tours.

The Year 6 leaders were asked what leadership means to them and their answers were insightful.

“Leadership is following the best example of a leader there is, Jesus. He was kind and showed respect to everyone, but He also would bring direction and correction when required.”   Zara H

“Leadership is serving others, encouraging others and having a positive influence on other people through motivation.” Chloe

“Leadership is leading by example by being kind and encouraging and trying to get out of your comfort zone and try new things.” Charlotte

“Leadership should be an encouraging and a powerful thing that should make others feel like they belong in any environment they are in.”  Zara Q

“You don’t have to have a badge to be a leader.”  Xian

“Leadership is something that you can't misuse. To be a leader you have to be understanding, encouraging and faithful.”  Annie

“Leadership is when you show your care for others by being a good role model and serving others.”  Ayo

It has been a privilege and a blessing to watch our Year 6 leaders flourish and grow in their understanding and practical applications of good leadership. Their futures are so bright and we wish them all the best as they continue to lead and love the people in their sphere of influence well.
