Oliphant Science Awards

The Oliphant Science Awards are a wonderful opportunity for school students from Foundation to Year 12 to develop their interests in science through a range of categories to suit a wide variety of abilities and interests.

Students have the opportunity to explore a scientific topic of their own choice through a variety of different mediums and then display their work to a broad audience.

There were over 800 different entries this year. Emmaus Christian College had 15 students from both Brooklyn Park and South Plympton Campus who decided they would like to take up the challenge.

We are proud to announce the following achievements.

Ethan (Year 6) obtained a Highly Commended for his creative hand-drawn scientific poster on Bush Fires. This is the second year in a row Ethan has achieved this. Well done Ethan!

Congratulations to Caleb (Year 9), Hannah (Year 9), and Maggie (Year 9) who have won places for their Scientific Inquiry research. We will not know which place they received until the awards night later in October. This is a fabulous achievement for our students.

The South Australian Science Teachers Association has been running the Oliphant Science Awards since 1981.

Round 4 Update

We are pleased to announce that both our Year 5 teams won their Round 4 Debates, arguing "Teachers should wear a school uniform."

  • Year 5 Blue defeated Parkside Primary
  • Year 5 Green defeated East Adelaide Primary School.

The topic for our Year 6 and 7 teams was: "Schools should discourage best friends."

  • Year 7 Maroon won their round against St Catherines School. Year 7 Maroon is currently sitting in the final 8 with only one round to go.
  • Year 5/6 Yellow at Brooklyn Park defeated Linden Park Primary. ECC Yellow 6 is currently ranked 11th out of 110 teams. This is a remarkable achievement for both teams.

Our Senior Team is 4th on the ladder and will be competing in the quarter-finals early next month. A fantastic achievement - we wish them all the very best.

Congratulations to Angelina (Year 5),  Sarah (Year 7), and Sarina (Year 5) for winning speaker of the night in their respective competitions.

Thanks to our coaches for all their hard work and extra hours and to our supportive parent body. A real team effort!
