Naming our new building

Naming our new building

This year the Junior School Council came up with the idea of naming our new building in Woi-Wurrung language. At our school we value student voice and saw this as an authentic opportunity for our students to be involved in decision making. The process began by members of the Junior School Council brainstorming ideas and creating a shortlist. The JSC came up with the following shortlist:

Inspiring Minds

Gratitude

Inclusion

All together

Leaders of the Future

All students at our school were asked to vote on one of these names. School Council has also been consulted.  JSC would now like to invite community members to vote on their favourite name from this list. If you would like to vote, please use the google form below by Friday 17th September.

We are working alongside the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and the Victorian School Building Authority on naming the new building. When we have completed our process of community consultation, we will provide the selected concept for consideration and translation. Elders who are recognised language keepers will consider our suggestions, and guidance and permission will be sought from Traditional Owners regarding appropriate language words. We acknowledge that many contemporary words and phrases do not translate directly into the traditional language of Woi-Wurrung, and that the Woi-Wurrung name may be based on our chosen concept, rather than a direct translation. If we are offered more than one translated option, we will ask the community to vote again.
