Make It Happen (Homework catch-up) runs from 1:00-1:30pm each lunchtime in N5
Drawing Club runs every Friday lunchtime from 1pm in N3
Guitar Club runs each Friday in G8. Please see Mr. McClure if you are interested.
House Basketball (for those students who signed up) will take place every Tuesday lunchtime in the BSC Gymnasium
All students are expected to wear full school uniform unless a note is provided from a parent or guardian explaining the circumstances.
A reminder that no hats/beanies are to be worn inside and only school hats/beanies are to be worn at school
For health and safety reasons, it is a school requirement that hair past shoulder length is to be tied up. Please do not wait to be asked to do so.

Bringing Words to Life

Our Year 12 English students were super fortunate to attend a Complete Works Company performance recently. The actors (pictured above with our School Captains, Willow and Ethan), selected key scenes from The Longest Memory and The Seven Stages of Grieving to perform, with the aim of highlighting key similarities and differences between the two texts. It was a powerful experience; watching the stories come to life was a beneficial experience for our students, who will write on these two texts in their end of year exam.

Thanks to Ballarat High School for allowing us to join their session – it was very much appreciated.

House Basketball

ROUND 1

Game 1 – Wandarra Warriors vs Tanaranga Taipans

The opening game of House Basketball saw Wandarra taking on Tanaranga. The Taipans started off strongly with the assistance of Brady Edwards and Ethan Keenan, although Burrill for the Warriors made the first bucket. The first half saw Tanaranga up by eight. The second half did a full 360 with the Warriors scoring a high of 17 points, thanks to Harry Welsh. It was Riley Burrill’s half court buzzer beater that iced the game and got the win for Wandarra.

Game 2- Kambarra Kings vs Taltarni Thunder

With the strong efforts of Chappy, the Kambara Kings built a considerable lead in the first half. Mr McClure matched Chappy on the opposite end for the Taltarni Thunder with his broad shoulders taking in rebounds, however the Kings came out on top of this half. In the second half the Thunder mustered a valiant team effort led by shooter Addy Corbett, to outscore the Kambara Kings. The dynamic duo of the Toms (both Lyons and Kehoe) were able to hold off their adversaries and the Kings came away victorious.

ROUND 2

The Tanaranga Taipans (Yellow) took on the Taltarni Thunder (Red) in the Round 2 clash that saw both sides looking for their first win.

The Taipans started strongly, led by their captain, Ethan Keenan, with the Beaufort Sports Captain putting on an absolute clinic. The Thunder did show some resistance with Tom Grant getting some much needed points for the team in red. Taltarni were further helped when Eastyn Carr gave away a foul, which sent the Thunder to the line.

However, Tanaranga proved too strong in the second half, cranking up through the gears and running over the top of Taltarni. It should be noted too, that Year 7 students, Cassidy Jackson and Evalyn Hayward did well stepping up, helping the Taipans win by 5 points.

The other match for the day involved the Wandarra Warriors (Blue) up against the Kambara Kings (Green). Year 11 student, Ben Peacock led from the front, being an absolute monster on the boards and bringing others into the game with his passing.

Blue House captain, Grace Kupsch and fellow Year 11 student, Tasha Saunders, also contributed by finding space and stretching the court. Annie Kehoe kept Kambara in the contest with her supreme ball handling skills and finished as the top scorer for the Kings.

Blue ended up coming out on top with Riley Burill putting up some points, helped by the energy provided from junior students, Rylee Jacka-Mulgrew, Harry and Billy Welsh.

Santos Science Experience

At the beginning of the last school holidays, Scarlett and I were invited to attend the Federation University Santos Science Experience. The event was held over three days and taught us all about the wonders of science.

While there, we learnt about the different science sectors, the jobs available and how study is conducted in the different fields. Some of the areas we had a look at were; the Necrobiome, Sports Science, Anatomy of Mammals, Geology and Mining.

During this process we also had the opportunity to participate in two external excursions. The first was to the Ballarat Gold Mine, where we learnt about the purpose of mining and how they operate. We also learnt about the various jobs in the mining sector.

The second excursion was to Mt. Buninyong to look at the geology of the rock and other geological areas around the mountain.

We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Beaufort for their generous donation to assist us in participating in the event. It was a fantastic experience.

Fundraising

On Wednesday 7th of September, VCAL students Zac Dally and Jack Wheeler will be holding an “R U OK? Day” breakfast in the Student Centre, with free bacon and egg sandwiches available from 8:30am. There will also be board games on offer in the Library at recess and a game of Skittles in the BSC Gym at lunchtime. Students are invited to wear something yellow to school and bring a gold coin donation to support R U OK? Day.
