Strength and Conditioning

Strength and Conditioning testing will be held in Week 9. This is a great way to find out where you are, it will give you direct feedback on how you are tracking with your training, and it also gives us a really good indication of how we are doing as program. This next week influences where we steer the program over the next few months. Below is a breakdown of the tests and how they should be conducted.

The testing will occur over the week and it’s important to understand that these sessions are not workouts, they are all-out efforts. This is the part where you find out where you really are compared to where you think you are. Do these tests in the order they are displayed in the link below and you should have a decent day out! To record your scores you must add your data into the google spreadsheet the coaches will provide during your session each day.

Take your time with the testing, don’t rush it like a session or a normal workout, sit down a day before and plan it out, think about how you want to attack it… give yourself the best chance to perform at your best! A reminder that Years 7 and 8 will not participate in the barbell lifting, however students will have the opportunity to participate in Level 1 and 2 fitness challenges and all remaining fitness testing.

Senior Basketball

Things are shaping up for a huge season in Basketball. The ISA are finalising draws over the coming fortnight. Our training and trial period commenced this week in preparation for the season proper in Term 4. See the calendar for all dates.

ISA Rd 1 - Saturday 22 October

Training:

Has commenced this week as per the schedule below. Still a DRAFT training timetable at this stage but I imagine minimal changes.

NB. Training for the term will conclude on Tuesday 20 September as Wednesday is now the final day of school due to the Public Holiday. Training will resume in Term 4 on Monday 10 October (first day back).

Team Lists:

Preliminary teams were sent to all players last week via email and will be re-sent to players and parents prior to games this Saturday. These are based on the A/B team trials, last season’s teams and our knowledge of the players. Teams may then be reconfigured in the lead up to the ISA based on training and trial game performance.

Uniform:

Now that registrations have closed and all registered players can be accommodated in a team, players need to purchase the SPX Basketball Singlet and Shorts in preparation for the upcoming season.

Trial Games:

Please see the attached document for the Trial Games to be played this Saturday, 17 September (Week 9, Term 3).

Athletics

Congratulations to all athletes for their superb efforts at the ISA Carnival yesterday. Whilst final results have not been sent through yet, there is much to celebrate at a team level. This campaign proved our most successful in the last decade.

  • Division 1 Boys Intermediate Shield Winners (15’s and 16’s)
  • Division 1 Boys Senior Shield Winners (17’s and Opens)
  • ISA Division 1 Champions (Overall Winners)

When people asked me how we won and who were the stand-out athletes, it was pleasing to be able to honestly say, “it was a complete team performance”. So many high calibre individual performances across sprints, middle distance, long distance, throws and jumps that we can mention next week. However, the athletes that stepped up to race unfavoured events and grab a precious 3 pts for finishing 9th were invaluable. Our superb double point relay efforts at the end to grab over 50 points highlighted the team aspect of the win. The manner in which we rallied to support one another in the lead-up and throughout the day of competition was exemplary.

Our team will be acknowledged on Friday at Sports Assembly and the Shields presented to Co-Captains Chris Zilifian and Simon Magner.

*All ISA athletes are invited to a special morning tea at Recess on Friday in the Principal’s courtyard.

A sincere thanks to Ms Lee, Mr Dobb, Mr Stearn and our external coaches Matthew North and Dominic Pannozzo who managed the team on the day.

A full wrap with individual mentions will appear in next week’s edition of Woodchatta.
