Happy Father’s Day!

We hope all the Fathers, Stepfathers, Father figures and Grandfathers had a wonderful Father's Day on Sunday.

Thank you to Michaela Hatters, Leslie Dundon and the parents who so generously donated their time and baked goods to help make the Father’s Day stall a success. This was the first Father’s Day Stall since 2019. The students had a great time shopping for their gifts!

Disco

The students and staff had a wonderful time at the SRC disco on Thursday evening. A big thank you to the SRC and Josh Guy for the work that went into the organisation. I would also like to thank the staff who attended. It was great to see all of the students engaged with the dancing and music and enjoying themselves. Thank you to Guy Gregson for the great decorations that were lighting up the room and making it look special.

Tree Removal

After the tree outside the performing arts room was removed in the holidays, two of our parents assisted in cutting and moving these on the weekend. A huge THANK YOU to Leslie Dundon and Greg Redden, their boys Felix, Emmet and Oliver along with Charlie R and a family friend, for cutting and moving these to the wildlife corridor. As a 5 Star Sustainable School we are reusing the logs in the wildlife corridor to add to the biodiversity. The logs look rather lovely and I am sure it will make a great outdoor teaching space and retreat for students to sit during recess or lunchtime. Leslie suggested naming this area the Friendship Gathering space as the Friendship Tree has been recycled into seats in the wildlife corridor – what a fantastic idea! Thank you Leslie and the family for all their help.

State Election Day Fundraising Help Required

The Victorian State Election will be held on November 26 and we are looking for a parent or two to coordinate a cake stall for the day. At the election in May the fundraising efforts for a cake stall raised $2,500 for the school. It would be great to get another Fundraising Cake Stall up and running to see if we can match or better the success of the last one. If you are able to help coordinate this please contact me via the office.

Fair 2023

It was wonderful to have a large group of parents at the Fair Meeting last week to discuss and learn about the stalls. The Fair will be upon us quickly so we will be asking for donations over the next 6 months as we prepare. Could all families please keep clean glass jars, we will require these for jam. Please send along jars that are clean and label free to the office. Please ask relatives to collect them too!

If you are interested in being a part of the Fair, keep a look out as stall holders will begin to seek help over the coming months.

Additional Professional Practice Day

As in Term 2, the Department of Education has approved an additional Professional Practice Day for schools before the end of the year. Solway will have their Professional Practice Day/Curriculum Day on Monday 19 December. The end of the school year will finish on Friday 16 December at 3:30pm. The final assembly will take place at 3:00pm with the traditional Guard of Honour for our graduating Year 6 students.

TeamKids will run a Curriculum Day program on Monday 19 December. While the school program will finish on Friday 16 December, the school will be open for supervision for students who are unable to be cared for on Tuesday 20 December until 1:30pm. This will be in multi-age setting and may not be with the usual class teacher. TeamKids will run an after-school program from 1:30pm-6:00pm that evening.

Scientist Sessions

Thank you to Rob Hamilton and Jenny Selway for organising guest speakers who are scientists to speak to our students online. This term we have had the opportunity for our students to listen to three scientists. This will be an annual event in line with science week.

September – HATS!

When it comes to using sun protection, temperature isn't a useful guide. You can't see or feel UV, but UV is the part of the sun that can damage skin and eyes and lead to skin cancer. SunSmart advises that Victoria's UV levels start to rise from mid-August. If we were at school, hats would be compulsory from now on, so please remind your child to wear a hat outdoors. For SunSmart information visit https://www.sunsmart.com.au/communities/parents

If you need to purchase a school hat immediately, please contact the office.

2023 Planning

As the budgets for 2022 come to a close in schools, our focus turns to planning and preparing for the year ahead. This is a vital time for ensuring our student numbers are as accurate as possible. If you have any plans to relocate please let me know, even if it is just a consideration at this time. Knowing all of the situations assists the school in planning for a successful year for the students in 2023.

Final Fortnight of the Term 3

Wishing the Year 3/4 students and staff a wonderful time at camp. They leave on Wednesday morning and will return on Friday afternoon. Please note that due to both the camp buses and District Athletics buses, parking on Winton Road and Taylor Street will be impacted. Please plan ahead and park in other locations.

Our final week at school will see our Year 1/2 students having dinner and then the Year 2 students sleeping at school on Thursday 15 September. We hope they have a great time as they begin the camping program.

The final day of term is Friday 16th September when we will have our Footy Day. Students are welcome to come to school in free dress with their teams’ colours or jumpers. In the past students have worn a variety of sports, not just AFL. We will hold a Footy Day parade at 9:00am where the AFL team songs will be played and students in those colours can parade around. A general song will be played for those not wearing AFL teams.
