YEAR 12 VCAL AND YEAR 11 HISTORY EXCURSION

By Andrew Ware (VCAL Coordinator)

On Tuesday 6th September, we had the opportunity to visit the Melbourne Holocaust Centre. We had the chance to listen to our guides, Mel and Soo, discuss how the Holocaust was humanly possible. We also were able to interact with some primary source documents (passports, photos, posters etc.) from the Holocaust and unpack the stories they told. But, undoubtedly the highlight was the opportunity to meet Holocaust survivor Abram Goldberg speak of his experiences in the Lodz Ghetto and at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. He spoke of the family he lost and of his life in Australia. At 98 years of age, he is a truly remarkable man. We had the chance to ask him questions, which was terrific. His encouragement to the students was that no matter how dark the days might get, the sun will shine again. Such a blessing to be able to meet him, and everyone who was there was challenged and moved.

We also took a trip into the city to visit the Shrine of Remembrance. The weather was awesome, so the walk from Flinders St Station to the Shrine in the sunshine was a great way to stretch our legs. The exhibits and items at the Shrine are so well presented. For some of our students, they have visited this site many times - however, it is always good to go and be reminded of those who have served and given their lives for our country.

It was a great day out with two great classes.

YEAR 10 FRENCH PLAY

By Kate W and Amelie D (Year 10 French Students)

On Monday the 12th of September, our Year 10 French class performed "Cendrillon," the French version of Cinderella. After many tiring rehearsals, our play debuted in front of a critical audience - 2TS, 4UT and the Kinder class.

Thankfully, it was received positively with many laughs and love for everyone's favourite character - Monsieur Souris (Mr Mouse). The play was performed in French, but the narrator told parts of it in English.

"Merci" to all who attended and remember that with a little over-dramatic crying and magic, you too can get a prince.
