Principal's Report

Year 5 and 6 Camp

The Years 5 and 6 students returned from Camp yesterday, a little tired but bubbling with excitement about their camp experiences. From all accounts it was action packed from dawn to dusk. When asking students as they came in from the bus what was their favourite activity their responses were laser tag and the flying fox. A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered for the camp - Scott, Michael, Elaine and Michelle and of course a huge thank you to all the staff for their attendance.  More photos can be found later in the newsletter.

Parents' Association Morning Tea

This morning we had a fabulous turn up to our Parents' Association morning tea. It was wonderful see so many parents having a chat, sharing experiences and at the same time having the opportunity to purchase some second-hand uniform.

SRC and the Green Team

Currently, students in Years 1 - 6 are gong through the process for nominating their Student Representative Council (SRC) representative and their representative for the ‘Green Team’ our environmental team. These important groups build student leadership skills and help educate and develop our community. We will be having a badge presentation at assembly for our representatives when the process has been finalised.

NAPLAN

This year the NAPLAN will again be online, but it will be conducted in March (not in May as in previous years). The NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy tests for students in Years 3 and 5 are scheduled from Wednesday 15th – Monday 27th March 2023. Students will complete tests in language conventions, writing, reading and numeracy. Students in year 3 will complete the written test on paper, otherwise all other assessments will be completed online using the NAPLAN application. The school will be supporting students to familiarise themselves with the type of questions and related functionalities of NAPLAN Online.

Today the students took part in a coordinated practice session which gave students an opportunity to experience a “Practice Omnibus”. This single test included questions from reading, conventions of language and numeracy and gives the students practice with the platform and test structure.

NAPLAN is a great tool for schools to reflect on their strengths and challenges in teaching and learning. It is data that can help measure the impact of programs and identify goals for the future. It is important that when talking to students about NAPLAN we reinforce that this assessment is for the school. All students need to do is show what they have learnt and do their best.

Parent Contributions

I would just like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our wonderful families who have made a monetary contribution this year to the school, it is greatly appreciated. Parent contributions continue to provide an important and critical source of funding which enables us to supply resources necessary to maximise the successful delivery of our learning programs. It also allows us to redirect some of our funding to engage experts like Andrea Hillbrick to work with the students and teachers to further enhance the quality education delivered at our school.

Special Presentation Assembly

Tomorrow, we are holding an extra special assembly. Matt Fregon MP our local member will be at the assembly to present our Leadership badges to our Year 6 recipients and the special Library Bags supplied by the Department of Education to our Foundation students. The assembly will begin at 2.45pm. Parents are most welcome to attend this outdoor assembly at school.

Swimming

Finally, I would like to congratulate Cohen, Isabella, Rebecca in Year 6 and Louis in Year 5 for qualifying for the Monash/Waverley Divisional Swimming Meet on Wednesday and wish them all the very best from us all.

Have a great fortnight.
