Swimming and Water Safety Program

Our students are now half-way though our six session Swimming and Water Safety Program. Students each received a bag with goggles and a towel just prior to the program and many of them are using these. Check out our models below with their bags...

Raywood Joins Australian Reading Hour- The Magic of Story Telling

On March 9th at 11am we will electronically join this simultaneous presentation. Below is an outline of the event. What an amazing opportunity to watch some of our favourite authors and illustrators performing their craft.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

Hosted by comedian and Frankie Fish series author Peter Helliar, our stellar line up of authors – Sally Rippin (Billie B Brown series), Gregg Dreise (My Culture and Me) and Andrew McDonald (Real Pigeons series) – will work together to create and narrate an imaginative and collaborative story, line by line.

Listening attentively, the evolving story will be illustrated LIVE by 3 celebrated illustrators – Ben Wood (Real Pigeons series), Chris Kennett (School of Monsters series), and Shiloh Gordon(The Underdogs series). They’re all listening to the same story as it evolves, but will their illustrations all LOOK the same when revealed at the end?

Together we will discuss the multiple interpretations a single story can have while introducing students to key storytelling techniques, encouraging them to think in ways that are imaginative, creative, interpretive and critical.

Year P-2 News

Learning can certainly be a lot of fun. The students have been busy in the little room, playing maths games to add numbers and solve number problems (ask us about our Friends of 10) and also practicing word families.

The Preps have continued their phonics work and are very excited to be using the six sounds we have concentrated on to be able to read and write simple words and sentences. But our favourite activity is when we get to make pages in our Phonics Book.

Year 3-6 News from Mr Collins

Update on Integrated Studies

The Raywood Guide To Healthy Eating is in full swing in the 3-6 wall. If you have any extra food labels or packaging at home, can you please send them to school so we can add them to our magnificent creation?

Writing

With NAPLAN just around the corner, the Year 3-6 students have been developing the skills to plan and write Narrative Texts. The big focus for us at them moment is generating ideas for stories, and more importantly, fresh ideas that are both interesting to us and our selected audience.

Goals

Recently I attached each student's personal goals to their reader covers. These goals were collaboratively chosen by both the student and myself, and are designed to be something that they can monitor and practice throughout the term. It would be great if you could discuss them at home and assist them in any way to achieve these goals.

LOTE- Auslan

Our students are really enjoying learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language) this year as part of their Language Other Than English (LOTE) program. We have our lesson each Wednesday and so far the Year 1-6 students (preps have previously had Wednesdays as their rest day) have learned to sign many colours, animals and numbers. We have also been learning to sign a song- Sing A Rainbow.

MARC News from Mrs Gentry

MARC library is back for 2023!

It is wonderful to be back in schools, seeing old faces and meeting new ones!

For our first MARC session we shared P.Crumble’s book On The First Day of School. Students used some props to help act out the story and joined in with the repetitive text.

There are some exciting things happening this year in MARC, including author and illustrator visits. I look forward to lots of books and lots of fun!

ART News

Our students have continued to participate in weekly Visual Art sessions. We are concentrating on our drawing and painting skills this term.

Below are some animals created by tracing our hands and using our creative skills to add features and decorate. I am sure you will agree that they look amazing.

Thank you to those family and community members who have been saving and sending along recycled materials for use in our Art Program. Plastic lids, tin lids, plastic containers, egg cartons, paper rolls from plastic wrap/paper-towel, old ribbon, wrapping papers, newspapers and magazines are always gratefully received.
