Art Room News

Week 2 and 3, Term 1

2023

The Art Room.....

...was a flurry of colour and rainbows thanks to the Junior Students. Circle practice warmed up our arms and hands as we played with colour mixing, experimenting with overlapping circles, altering the size of circles and mixing colours as circles overlapped. The following week, we added contrast by marking in bold black lines and tracing our bodies to create movement and interest.

Grade 2 students have been looking at Shape and Colour. Overlapping colour and shape creates very interesting effects, especially when we experiment with those gorgeous neon colours!

Grade 3 and 4

We have been creating some stunning works based on the circle. Using a limited colour range of tempera paints, the students abstract works. If you happen to be at school, make sure you visit the hallway near the staffroom. You will be awestruck!

Grade 5 and 6

Grade 5 and 6 students have been creating Collaborative artworks using a series of prompt cards. First, we layered the background with soft circle shapes then built a series of bold black drawings and patterns inspired by the art cards. The final addition to the collab was text, featuring Character Strengths such as Honesty, Gratitude, Love and Bravery. The students explored ways in which they could enhance the design with text.

Mural

Our mural is coming along nicely, even though we seem to be dodging the very hot or inclement weather! It's lovely to hear the kids engaging in the work and asking questions about the meaning or giving their interpretation. Keep watching the space to see more changes over the next few weeks!

I look forward to sharing more Art Room photos and stories!
