Positive Behaviour for Learning Program (PBL)

Last year staff started professional learning about PBL. We are now introducing the Behavioural Matrix and the growing ticket reward system. The students have responded very enthusiastically to the growing tickets and our Hall of Fame in the office.

Please take the time to have a look at our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Expectation Matrix. This was created by the staff, students and parent community of St. Bede's. Throughout the year we will become more and more familiar with the language on our matrix.

Anniversary of the National Apology.

Monday 13th Feb is the Anniversary of the National Apology. On this day in 2008 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a formal apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and in particular to the Stolen Generations. This is a significant day in the First Nations calendar.

At St Bede's we start our assemblies with both the formal and informal acknowledgement of the indigenous owners of the land we learn on and we participate in the Fire (Friends igniting reconciliation through education) Carriers program. Our Fire Carrier leaders this year are Honora Purtell and Mia Moscatelli, they will lead us in remembering these significant days, learning about the culture of the First Nations people and celebrating NAIDOC Week later in Term 3.

If you wish to have a conversation about what happened at the National Apology a picture book that is appropriate for Grades 3 to 6 is 'Sorry Day' by the indigenous author Coral Vass. The You Tube read to link is:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owPeoqsfsSk
