Cancelled… cancelled… cancelled… it feels like all I have been doing lately is sending out cancellation messages! A frustrating week of weather has grounded our Basketball, Volleyball, Netball and Aerobics teams this week. It looks as though a cool change is on its way though so hopefully we will be back into the swing of things soon.

Year 4-6 Swimming Trials

A huge thank you to all the classroom teachers and volunteer helpers who assisted with our Year 4-6 swimming trials last Friday at Norwood Pool. It was Molly and my first event and we were feeling our way a little bit. We certainly appreciated the help! It was great to see so many girls put up their hand to participate, even the less confident swimmers.

There were some fast times recorded and some very impressive performances. I thought the “50 metres butterfly” category was surely a typo on the registration form but lo and behold some of our young swimmers surged down the pool channelling Susie O’Neill.

I was also impressed that the girls recognised when a swimmer was starting to struggle and came over to the side of the pool as a group to cheer them on - encouraging them vocally to the finish line. This didn't need to be prompted by teachers. Instead the girls took it upon themselves to help a classmate. A really impressive display of both leadership and empathy.

We look forward to the Year 4-6 swimming carnival on Monday March 6th.

Athletics Day

We cannot wait until next Tuesday! Students have chosen their preferred track and field events with participation levels through the roof. Fantastic to see! May the best house win.

Well done to our Primary 5 netball team who had a tough Term 4, only winning one game, but played terrifically to beat the 3rd placed Comets team by 7 goals in their last outing.

It has been great to see a huge number of Year 3-6 girls out at our Cross Country trainings on Monday mornings. Our coach TJ has been gradually raising the intensity of the sessions as we build towards various competitions and carnivals later in the year.

Loreto Rowing Regatta

This past week Loreto hosted our annual regatta with crews competing in every division from year 7/8 quads to our Senior First 8. The rowers received lots of support from Ms Hage, Ms Partridge and some of our amazing teachers who came along to support us on the day.

We had a few successes walking away with our Year 8/9 A Quad coming away 2nd in their division, only missing out on first by 1.48 seconds, and our Schoolgirl First 4 winning their division with a personal best time achieved in their heat.

With a calm and friendly atmosphere at the Loreto Tent, Rowing SA commented that it was one of smoothest running regattas in recent memory.
