What: BBLLLEN Girls in Trade Event
Who: Female students in Year 10 -12 with an interest in trade areas which are traditionally male dominated. Parent/guardians are also encouraged to attend with their young person.
When: Wednesday 15th March 2023 atBunnings Warragul CR Queen and Hazel Dr, Warragul from 6pm -8.30pm
More info: Free event with dinner provided. This event will link successful trades women in the community with young women interested in working in these fields. The event will give some insight and information about specific careers or general information about career journeys. The group will consist of young people from year 10-12 from local Secondary schools, along with trades women, employers TAFES and RTO’s and peak organisations. The evening will involve guest speakers, followed by dinner, games, prizes and time to chat to employer’s peak bodies and guests. What: BBLLLEN Inspiring Careers in Health Camp
Who: Students in Year 10 and 11 with a genuine interest in a career/s in the health sector who have not yet decided on a definite career pathway.
When: Wednesday 24 – Friday 26 May, 2023 at Federation University
More info: The Inspiring Careers in Health Camp is a three day experience for 70 students from across Gippsland. In partnership with Federation University and TAFE Gippsland, these students will be introduced to a range of Health related careers and will get the opportunity to gain knowledge on pathways and employment options within the Health sector.
Students interested in this opportunity need to email Mrs Elly Martin emartin@mscw.vic.edu.au with a brief statement about why they would benefit from attending this camp by 1 March 2023.
What: BBLLLEN New Energy Technology Program
Who: Maximum of FOUR students in Year 9 and 10 with an interest in new energy technology and possible careers in this area (first in first served basis).
When: The program will have two sessions/days per term and will commence on Monday, 27 March 2023 from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm at Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN office, Trafalgar.
The rest of NET Program will be held at the Gippsland Tech School, Corner Princes Drive and Monash Way, Morwell, except for Monday, 22 May 2023 and the Tuesday, 17 October with locations TBC.
More info: The NET Program will be made up of sessions allowing exploration of emerging jobs of the future in renewable energy, technologies, and industries. Mentors from various organisations in areas such as renewable energy, power stations, government sector, mine and land rehabilitation, and education sector will support students throughout the program. What: Future Leaders Writing Prize
Who: Year 11 and 12 students in Australian secondary schools
When: Entries are open until 1 May 2023.
More info: Submit a piece of writing (800 to 1,000 words). The writing can be fiction or non-fiction and on any topic. The award winner will receive $1,000. Where there is more than one winner the prize money will be shared. What: The University of Tasmania 2023 Marine Discovery Competition
Who: Year 11 and 12 students with an interest in marine biology and Antarctic sciences.
When: The course will run on Maria Island, Tasmania, from Monday April 17 – Sunday April 23, 2023. Applications close 20 February 2023.

This is a 5-day field trip based on the picturesque Maria Island, on the Tasmanian East Coast. Led by marine ecologist, Dr Scott Bennett, students will be doing field work and experiencing the sights and sounds of climate change, invasive species, pollution, debris, and the associated economic and social impacts. Incorporate A Practical Introduction to Temperate Marine Biology which is an introduction to our Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science degree. Upon completing this course, they will receive credit unit towards their future University of Tasmania degree. Applications are open and we encourage teachers and career advisors to speak with students who are interested in marine biology to apply for this experience. To enter, the students are to complete an online application and submit their 300-word pitch on the topic: why I wish to study the marine biology of Maria Island. Applications will close at Midnight (AEST) on Monday 20 February 2023. There are 24 places available, 14 of which are scholarships places.
