IMPORTANT INFORMATION

FOR SACRED HEART FAMILIES

 NAPLAN 2023

What is NAPLAN

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3 and 5 sit each year. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

When is NAPLAN

This year the date for NAPLAN has changed and the assessments will be held in MARCH. NAPLAN will be completed over a two week period. The Year 3 and 5 students will sit their assessments on:

15th March- Writing

16th March - Reading

21st March- Conventions of Language

22nd March- Mathematics

If you have any concerns about these dates please call the school.

What will students need?

Schools have transitioned from paper-based to computer-based assessments. The students will use their school chomebooks on the day but they are required to have a working set of headphones that they have brought from home. If your child has not brought in a set we ask that you send a pair in immediately.

What can I do to support my child?

Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. Teachers have ensured students are familiar with the types of questions in the assessments and have provided appropriate support and guidance in the lead up to the day.

Individual student NAPLAN reports will be provided by the school later in the year.

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE

This year students at Sacred Heart will have the opportunity to participate in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).

The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure in students, and enables them to experience quality literature.

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are required to read 30 books with parental assistance if necessary. Students in Year 3-6 must read 20 books. For further information on the rules of the challenge please click here.

All students (K-6) will be provided with a username and password to keep an online log of their reading. Books on the PRC booklist will be available to borrow from the library and if students require assistance with logging the books they have read online they will be able to visit Miss Morrissey in the library on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes.

The challenge opens Monday 27th February and closes Friday 18th August. If you have any questions about the competition please do not hesitate to contact Miss Tahlia Morrissey via email (tmorrissey@arm.catholic.edu.au).
