YCDI
Our ‘YCDI’ curriculum aligns with the Victorian Curriculum’s Personal and Social Capability. We designed our learning to develop social skills and build connections by facilitating a positive and safe environment. Students will develop their emotional literacy by unpacking the ‘Zones of Regulation’ (an example of the Zones has been added to Seesaw for your information, and to support students in their home learning tasks). As they identify the emotions that are associated with each zone, they will learn to practice strategies for active problem solving. Students will also develop the ability to read the body language and facial expressions of others and apply strategies to support their peers. Our aim is to create personalised goals for each student, based on their individual social or emotional needs. Students will develop strategies such as positive self-talk sentence prompts; these will apply to maintain focus and stay within the ‘Green Zone’ in classroom and resolve conflict situations with their peers.
To support your child’s YCDI learning at home, you could:
- Ask your child to reflect on their day, including sharing how they felt during different parts of the day.
- Support your child to identify the emotions within each of the Zones of Regulation; Blue, Green, Yellow and Red.
- Talk about friendships and social connections your child has made within the school community.
- Discuss a range of helpful strategies that your child can use to return to (or remain in) the ‘Green Zone’. You can refer to their Week 2 home learning and anchor charts on Seesaw for support with this.
