Speaking and Listening

Throughout the term, students will strengthen their communication by responding to questions and ideas during class discussions and applying turn-taking strategies during collaborative tasks. They will develop their ‘Whole Body Listening,’ as a strategy to respectfully engage with others during discussions. Students will also learn to apply strategies during learning tasks to develop their collaborative learning skills.

To support your child’s Speaking and Listening skills at home, you could:

  • Ask your child to explain the concept of ‘whole body listening’
  • Model whole body listening during family conversations.
  • Practice turn-taking during discussions at home.
  • Record your child speaking or reading on Seesaw, and ask them to watch and reflect upon their tone, volume and speed in the video.
