Wattle Group Term 1, 2023

Welcome to all of our children, and families to Livingston Kindergarten.
It is hard to contemplate that we are now in week 5 and this is our first newsletter of the year. I am pleased to report that the children in Wattle have settled in really well.
I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge that each and every child brings, and their curiosity about each other and the world around them is outstanding. We are very excited to share their learning and discoveries in 2023, and we know we are going to have an amazing year.
The children are now entering the Wattle room confidently. They are learning to follow the rules and routines of a new environment, they put their bags in their locker, and water bottles on the trolley and then wash their hands with confidence before pursuing an activity of interest to them. Some children will navigate the room immediately, whilst some need some extra support (which is ok), this is perfectly normal, and I can assure you that all of our children are happy and engaged within minutes.
This term our focus is on helping the children to feel a sense of well-being and belonging in our kindergarten environment. We do this by focusing on each of our children. We learn about them, their families their interests, etc and we support their confidence further by offering a wide range of support, activities, books, and mat time routines to learn about each other.
Every day we have group time where we do an Acknowledgement to Country before saying 'hello' to each other in different ways. Then children can choose how we say hello, and they are also given choices re how to go and wash their hands, go inside, etc
Sometimes we use colours, sometimes we use a rainbow ring, others call names or choose shapes, etc. These activities vary from one week to the next and are welcomed by the children as they all participate.
Thank you.
