Meet and Greet

This Wednesday is our Meet and Greet afternoon. As we have done in the past up at Scotsburn, we would like to make this event a relaxed community afternoon, with lots of opportunity to mingle and enjoy some time at the campus. We would love when not booked into an interview time, for families to play and even bring a picnic to enjoy. We will set up a bbq with some sausages for sale, as well as some eggs available for purchase. Hopefully the weather is kind to us and we can enjoy a lovely afternoon together.

If you are yet to book a time with your child’s teacher and would like to, please check Compass for available times.

Remember to bring some coins for sausages and eggs!

FETE

The Fete is fast approaching and planning is well and truly underway. We are all getting very excited for Friday March 3rd, with classes this week completing a range of Fete activities, including looking at previous Fete photos, creating promotional material for their stall, assisting with the planning, as well as designing a roster for student and parent assistance.

Our three classes at Scotsburn have decided on the following three stalls:

  • SC1 - BBQ
  • SC2 - Photo Booth
  • SC3 - Pulled Pork Rolls

Over the next few weeks, volunteer rosters will be sent out to parents for each class. We will be looking for short blocks of assistance (mostly 30 minute intervals), to assist with the set up, pack up and running of the stall. We may require other assistance of items to borrow in the night, such as gazebos, eskys, slow cookers etc. Each class will send out specific requests for assistance over the next week or so.

Scotsburn Assembly this Friday

We will hold our next Scotsburn assembly this Friday at 9.10am. Hopefully the weather is a bit nicer this time and we can hold it under the shade sails. Otherwise we will hold it in the shed.

Scotsburn Parent Committee Meeting and Morning Tea

Now that we have settled into the school year, it would be brilliant for our parent community to catch up for a coffee and some cake, and to chat about all things Scotsburn in 2023. During Term 4 last year, we undertook the process of creating a Parent Committee, to allow for more regular communication as well as provide a clearer voice for our community. The first step in getting this underway in 2023, is to catch up and organise some dates and plans.

We will aim to meet next Tuesday at 9.15am in the old building. If this is a time that you are unable to make, we will communicate all discussions and plans via email and compass. This first meeting is not only for those that have already indicated that they would like to be part of the committee, but also anyone else who would like to join in 2023.

I will provide some more information and send out a reminder via Compass later in the week.

Prep Interviews

Just a reminder that Preps have Wednesdays off for the month of February. This time off is to ensure that children have the chance to recharge mid-week as they settle into school. On these Wednesdays, each Prep student needs to come in for a mandated Prep Interview that takes approximately 45 minutes for an English and Numeracy assessment to gauge where each student’s point of need is. Please refer to your interview time on Compass.  This interview only requires your child to be present.

Additionally, if I can assist with any questions, please feel free to send us an email at Anastasia.anderson@education.vic.gov.au  or Kirsty.bull@education.vic.gov.au and we will get back to you.

Prep Buddy Program

With our large Grade 6 cohort at Scotsburn this year, we have decided to return to a more formal prep buddy program in 2023. This will be a really important feature of a successful transition for our new preps, as well as provide a wonderful opportunity for our Grade 6 students to further develop their mentoring and leadership skills. Our Scotsburn Buddies for 2023 are below:

Arrival Time

8:45am is an ideal time to arrive at school, as the classrooms and playground are not supervised until then. If you are regularly requiring your child to be dropped off prior to this time, just a reminder that we do have before school care available at the Buninyong Campus. Children are driven to the Scotsburn campus before 9:00am.

All children should be ready to start the day at 9am. If your child is absent on any given day, please ensure that you contact the Buninyong Primary School office to inform them.

Items Brought to School

Just a reminder that toys do not need to be brought into school. We have lots of toys and resources at our lunch club and in the classrooms which students can play with and enjoy. Personal items brought to school can be lost and damaged and teachers can not guarantee that these possessions will be kept safe.

Bus Travellers

We are still chasing up a few bus traveller forms. If your son/daughter is a bus traveller and you haven’t already done so, please contact Mel in the office at the Buninyong Campus to complete the required forms. A reminder that if travel plans change on any certain day, please call the Scotsburn Campus or come and see the bus duty teacher before collecting your child. This will save any confusion when doing the bus roll.

Sounds-Write Training

Buninyong Prep - Grade 2 staff are lucky enough to be undertaking a training course called ‘Sounds-Write’. This is a phonics based programme that allows students to understand how sounds are represented by the writing system. This course runs from Week 5 - Week 8 and will take both Mrs Robinson and Mrs Anderson out of the classroom on Fridays. The wonderful Mrs Micallef will be in SC1 while the training course is on.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

It was wonderful to see SC1 continue to build great learning beahviours last week as we continued looking at our school values, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind. We were able to explore some routines of how we best learn and how we can support others' learning. This has put us in a wonderful position to now get into learning this week.

This term our Integrated Studies focus for grade SC1 students will be a unit called: Who Do You Think You Are? (Sorry for the confusion in our first newsletter). Students will investigate their personal and family history. The students will identify the different ways they connect with their society.

As part of this unit, we are asking all students to bring in a family photo, a baby photo, and a kinder photo. Please ensure that you send copies and not originals. We will need the photos by Monday, February 20th, please.

Have a great week.

Ana and Kirsty

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Week 3 for SC2 was predominantly based around stabilising our learning behaviours for different parts of the day. Students were able to create their own anchor chart for lessons such as independent reading, before putting their chosen behaviours into practice during that period of the day.

SC2 students were then able to model this to our Grade 1 students who were able to join us a for a morning. SC2 students were able to set an example during independent reading, before assisting our Grade 1’s to talk about their reading using verbal summaries (pictured below).

Furthermore, students have continued to identify and celebrate one another’s achievements in relation to showing the values of being respectful, responsible and kind.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing everyone at Meet and Greet on Wednesday!

Mitch.

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Last week SC3 spent a great deal of time consolidating some wonderful learning behaviours, as well as creating some learning trademarks that we want to live by in the classroom. It has been very pleasing to see all students buy into the idea of working as a team at all times as well as commit to displaying our school values of Respectful, Responsible and Kind.

Thanks to families who have returned their Acceptable ICT Use Agreement forms. These are an important part of setting up how we use technology and iPads in SC3 this year. We had a great chat last Friday as a class about being cyber safe and ICT in the school environment.

Also on Friday with it being such a hot day, we thought what better way to cool us all down than with a bit of sprinkler time. It was a brilliant way to end another great week at the campus.

Have another awesome week everyone!

Jarrod
