Teaching and Learning

Meet and Greet

Bookings have now closed. If you have missed the cutoff, that is fine, please contact your child’s classroom teacher directly to organise a time.

We are looking forward to the Meet and Greet sessions on Wednesday February 15th. On this day students will finish school at 1pm to allow for the Meet and Greet sessions to occur.  Thanks to all those who have booked a session, these conversations are an important part of creating a learning plan for your child.

The purpose of the Meet and Greet is to provide an opportunity for:

● Teachers and parents to meet

● Teachers to explain routines and what to expect in the classroom

● Parents to ask questions and provide information that will assist teachers to develop learning programs for their child.

In the attempt to maximise this time together, please find a few prompts that may help in the lead up to the Meet and Greet session.

* How has your child settled into the year?

* Are there any medical, social or family issues that need to be taken into account?

* What are your child’s strengths and interests?

* How is your child’s home reading going?

* What are your child’s organisational skills like?

* Any other concerns you may have.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.

Learning Snapshots

Over the coming weeks you will start to see learning snapshots coming through on Compass. These learning snapshots are designed to assist with communicating the work that is being done in the classroom and specialist classes.

The learning snapshots will typically include a couple of photos and a statement about the learning that is taking place. This is a great way to start a conversation with your child at home beyond the normal question of ‘what did you do at school today?’

The learning snapshots will come home on a weekly basis rotating between specialists and classrooms each week.

We are looking forward to sharing the learning that is taking place with you so please keep an eye out for these Compass notifications.

Homework

This week your child will have received their first homework task of the year. Well done and thankyou to those who have been able to set up a routine at home to assist with this work.

The table below indicates the expected time for your child to spend on homework each week beyond the nightly reading and some tips to assist:

Tips to foster great study habits.

·       Provide a designated space for homework.

·       Negotiate with your child about when and how long they should spend on homework – spend short amounts of time regularly.

·       Make the time enjoyable. Try to avoid worrying over whether or not it is completed/right or wrong. Your child will gain more from the process of doing homework nightly and see this as a time to value rather than to avoid.

·       It is your child’s work, if they need help, encourage them to see the teacher the following day.

·       Model great work habits, sit near by doing some work of your own.
