Library News

International Women's Day

The school will be celebrating International Women’s Day in a couple of weeks, which is observed on the 8th of March every year.  Currently, the library has a selection of women’s stories on display that will interest and inspire our readers with a focus on the True Stories genre.  These titles include a comical biography from Geena Davis, Kylie Moore-Gilbert’s terrifying foreign incarceration, Greta Thunberg’s quest for a better world, Ash Barty’s memoir and plenty more.

Short Story Competition

The very first library short story competition for aspiring writers is now open.   Students are asked to submit an original piece of writing from any of the themes listed on the promotional poster.  These include: Adventure, Art, Democracy, Diversity, Fantasy, Freedom, Justice, Love, Nature, Peace, Respect, Time Travel and Voice.

Judges will be selecting two winning entries from the Years 7-9 and 10-12 age group.  There is a word limit of two pages or 1,000 words.  Entries should be submitted to the library desk by the last day of term, Thursday 6 April.  Winners will be announced in Term 2.  Prizes include movie vouchers and stationary packs.

Book Club

The first Book club for 2023 was held last Friday with students choosing two ‘term one’ books to read and critique.  These titles are The Maze Runner by James Dashner (a fast paced sci-fi novel) and Blueback by Tim Winton (contemporary Australian fiction/movie tie-in).

The next Book Club meeting will be held on: Thursday 9 March, followed by Friday 31 March for our final Term 1 meeting to discuss both titles.

The library provides all book club titles for students to read.  Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au to add their name to the mailing list.
