Around The Primary

Dear Parents

This week the students have loved visiting our remodelled College Library. This building has been transformed into a modern, new learning hub with various spaces for student learning. It has also been cleverly designed to have multi-purpose functionality. Families are welcome to come for a visit before or after school and explore our new learning spaces.

Books + Reading = Knowledge

Busy, busy, busy!
It's story time
Busy times in our new Library!
Come for a visit
Lots of smiles and happy faces
Think and wonder
Heaps of fun

Reflections

Our Year 2 students shared some beautiful reflections from their Liturgy today.

People show love by saying no and not always giving people what they want.

People show peace by choosing to use words instead of fighting.

People show joy by being kind to each other.

People show patience by waiting their turn instead of pushing in.

People show kindness by helping each other out and saying kind words to make people smile.

People show goodness by choosing to do the right thing.

People show self-control by meditating when they are frustrated.

People show faithfulness by praying to God every day.

People show gentleness by picking their dogs up carefully and looking after them.

Carpark Reminder

A reminder to parents and caregivers that disabled bays are for people with the appropriate permissions and that even when it rains or you are running late or just want to do a ‘drop and go’, these bays should not be used without the ACROD sign displayed.   We have several parents and grandparents who rely on these bays and have not been able to use them.

As you are aware, our entry and exit points get very busy in the morning and afternoon; however, we do our best to clear traffic as quickly as we can while keeping everyone safe. It is so important to always treat each other with kindness and respect!

It is important that the College continues to be notified of student positive COVID cases.  Please inform us via this LINK. The information will go directly to the College. If there are any queries related to this process, please advise Emilee Rippon at compliance@johnxxiii.edu.au

NAPLAN

Over the last 2 weeks students in Year 3 and Year 5 have completed NAPLAN assessments. We are very proud of their efforts and calm approach to the assessments.

Due to COVID, a number of students have been unable to complete the NAPLAN testing within the prescribed test window.   We have now been informed that the online testing platform will stay open into next week, allowing schools the opportunity to administer some catch up assessments where possible.

Sports Update

Cross Country

Training begins on Tuesday 31 May and takes place every Tuesday and Thursday morning, 7:30am outside the St Louis Sports Centre (please note: no training on Thursday 23 June).  The training is for Year 3 to 6 and everyone is welcome.  The focus will be on improving running technique and building stamina in preparation for the Year 3 to 6 Interhouse Carnival which takes place in Term 3 on Friday 29 July.

Parents are welcome to come and run with the group, younger siblings can also run but must be accompanied by an adult.  The session will finish at 8:00am and the changerooms will be open for students to change into their school uniform.  The canteen will also be open; however food and drinks must be finished in the pavilion before going to class.

There is no need to sign up, come along when you can.  Any Music commitments must take priority, just come for a run on the other day!
