Changing times

One of the initiatives of our current Strategic Planning process is Succession Planning for the College Council and the College Leadership Team. At the recent Council Annual General Meeting, Mr Julius Matthys’ term as Chair of the Council concluded and Dr Courtenay Harris was elected as the new Chair. At the end of the school year, we will have an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate Mr Matthys’ outstanding contribution to the very effective governance of our College. Dr Harris was previously Deputy Chair and has also been a wonderful contributor at our College. She will be a superb Council Chair.

We also announced to our staff on Monday that Vice Principal, Mrs Kath Negus, has decided to conclude at the College and will not return in Semester Two. Mrs Negus has been an exemplary teacher, leader and mentor for generations of John XXIII College students during her very distinguished career. We look forward to acknowledging Mrs Negus’ exceptional career. Mrs Jessica Bouwman (Vice Principal) and Mr Greg Moran (Deputy Principal) will continue in their roles in Semester Two as the College undertakes its usual recruitment processes for the beginning of 2023.

The relationship between the Council and the Leadership Team at John XXIII College is pivotal.  We have been blessed with outstanding guidance and support from Mr Matthys, Dr Harris and Mrs Negus. With a wonderful student body, committed staff and supportive parents, we can also look to the future with great optimism and excitement. 

Part of that excitement is reflected in the opening of our refurbished Library this week. The new design is to encourage and facilitate learning and we look forward to showcasing our students engaging in this facility in the coming weeks.

2023 John XXIII College Bursary 

John XXIII College has a strong and proud tradition of providing education to students who otherwise couldn’t attend the College. Thanks to the generosity of the John XXIII community, the Foundation is offering a needs based Bursary to commence in 2023 for a student in Year 7 or above.  The Bursary will cover the student’s tuition fees for the duration of their schooling at John XXIII College.  

The Bursary is available to current and future families.
