NAPLAN 2021

Students in Year 7 and Year 9 completed their Online National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) last week and make-ups tests are being completed this week. The students are to be commended on the focused way that they approached these tests in this new online format.

Whilst these tests provide information about individual student achievement, compared with national standards, we are most interested in seeing student progress from Years 7 to 9 at Marian College. This information provides us with valuable information about the impact of our learning and teaching programs and enables us to target these programs more effectively.

Semester 1 Examinations – Years 9, 10 and 11

Letters outlining all Year 10 and 11 examination details have been distributed via Operoo last week and Year 9 letters will go out this week.

Copies of these letters and the Examination Timetable for Year 9, 10 students and Year 11 VCE students are available on SEQTA Engage and Learn on the Examination Information Portal Page. The Examination Protocols for students are also available here and it is essential that all students are familiar with these prior to the examinations.

Year 10 and 11 students are required to attend school only for their scheduled examinations and should study at home at other times. However, students are not permitted to leave the school grounds between examinations, if they are sitting more than one examination on any day. A supervised study room will operate throughout the examination period. Students must be in the study room if they are at school and not in an examination.

Year 11 students studying Unit 3/4 Studies should attend these classes when they do not clash directly with a scheduled examination.

It is important to note that these examination results could affect the subject selection process for 2023. In approving VCE subjects for students, the College aims to support students to enrol in studies in which they will have the greatest opportunity for success and have demonstrated the knowledge, understanding and skills required to meet the requirements of the study. For this reason, students receiving unsatisfactory examination scores may not be approved for enrolment in related VCE studies. Students who perform poorly on a number of examinations will be required to meet with the Senior Certificates or Year 10 Academic Review Panel. This could affect their pathway options at Marian College. Furthermore, students applying for Acceleration Studies are required to be achieving a minimum of 75% in the related examinations.

Successful examination completion is a skill and, like any skill, one that is developed and refined over time, with practice. A key to success is planning and studying in advance and, by now, students should have implemented a well-planned program of study. We wish students all the best with their preparations.
