Principal's Message

Nearly 4 weeks into Term 2 and the activities and events are being experienced at a hectic pace. The Mother’s Day Breakfast was a wonderful event and supported by many families and students. There was a fantastic spirit of hospitality and communality which was shared by all who attended. Thank you and congratulations go to the students and staff who were in some way involved in the organisation of the event especially Rose Cassar, our Marketing and Community Officer. In fact the whole week was a celebration of Mothers as the VCreate students provided the College community an opportunity to acquire a gift from their Mother’s Day Stall. Well done to them too.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Our students in Years 7 & 9 participated in the program this week and for the first time the assessments were attempted in an online format. There was a great deal of preparation and organisation required to get the systems in place for the program to run successfully. One group who work diligently in the background is the Network and Technology Team and I thank Robert Monte, Mark Shor and Pat Bruzzaniti for their patience and perseverance in making our systems work. Thank you as well to the NAPLAN Team for the overall organisation and implementation of the program.

On May 9 and 11 it was exciting to welcome to the College the families of current Grade 6 students who will be joining us in Year 7 in 2023. They came in for a “get to know you” interview where the students told us a little about themselves including their interests, learning styles, goals and what they are excited about in moving to Marian next year. No doubt there were a few nerves but the students were very prepared and presented themselves very capably. I believe that they went away well pleased with their first interaction with our College Community. A Transition program is planned for the rest of the year as well as an Orientation program at the beginning of 2023. The Enrolment timeline for students starting in 2024 is well underway and College Tours are available and an Information Night is calendared for 14 June.

The above is just a snapshot of all that is part of the College Diary. Furthermore, there is much to look forward to in the coming weeks including the Performing Arts Showcase, LOTE Week, the Year 10 Adventure Sports Camp, the Year 12 Retreat, the Year 9 Camp and not to mention the Year 9, 10 & 11 Examinations. A special plug in regard to the Annual Biggest Morning Tea where the College Staff organise the activity to support the Cancer Council. Great things are happening around us and I pray that our students, staff and families will gain wonderful experiences that provides lasting happiness.
