SCIENCE

YEAR 11 BIOLOGY

Year 11 Biology students completed a rat dissection as part of their studies. Students are exploring how animal systems function, specifically through cell specialisation and the organisation of animal cells into tissues, organs, and systems with specific functions (such as digestive, endocrine and excretory systems).

YEAR 10 GENETICS IN SCIENCE

Year 10 students have begun studying Genetics in Science. One of their assessments involved extracting DNA from wheatgerm. They all did an excellent job of the method, and observing the blueprints of life!

CSI

The CSI class was lucky enough to have Dr Jim Pearson of the Forensic Services Department, Victoria Police, come and visit us this week. Jim is a chemist who has worked as a forensic scientist for 30 years. He presented information about what forensics is, how crimes are solved, and explained how it is different to Hollywood's depiction of CSI. He also showed students the many paths that lead to Forensic science as a career. After his informative talk, students had an opportunity to ask questions about real life crimes he has worked on. These ranged from the Bali bombings and train crashes to a fire at a fish and chip shop in Traralgon. We feel very lucky to have had Jim visit as he came all the way from Melbourne. He provided a great insight into the field of forensics.
