Catholic education election report card on major parties

Catholic education has released a federal election report card assessing the responses from the major political parties on education priorities.

The report card assess the Coalition, Labor and Green’s responses to the priorities of:

  • Genuine school choice through fair funding and ensuring affordable contributions from families
  • Enabling faith-based education through religious protections
  • Improving capital funding
  • Support for delivering national priorities such as quality teaching, early childhood education, mental health and wellbeing programs and Closing the gap initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Islander students

National Catholic Education executive director Jacinta Collins said the report card shows the Liberal National Coalition and Labor are on par in addressing Catholic education’s priorities, particularly on school choice.

“We are fortunate that both major parties continue to support genuine school choice in Australian education and are committed to families who choose a Catholic education for their children,” Ms Collins said.

Responses sought from key independent candidates are also being evaluated.

The full report card and major party responses is available via www.ncec.catholic.edu.au/federal-election-2022

Parent Survey on KEY Expected Behaviours

We are inviting you to help us decide our KEY expected behaviours for our school as we work on Positive Behaviour for Learning.

It is recommended that there be no more than three or four KEY expected behaviours, so they can be remembered. These expected behaviours must link to social and emotional competencies that are teachable.

We have consulted with staff, and will be consulting with students and the School Advisory Council early next week to determine the options. If you have an expected behaviour that you think we must have, please email this to me by Monday 23 May. Principal@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

Parents will receive an Operoo eform to help us decide the KEY expected behaviours. We ask you to have a say and vote.

You will have three votes.

Vote 1 = 5 points

Vote 2 = 3 points

Vote 3 = 1 point.

All other words get a 0 point

Place your votes in the box below the expected behaviour that you consider vital for our school. Place a 5 or 3 or 1 beside your three votes and for all others please place a 0.

Thank you for your support and involvement in this important consultation.  You will receive the eform on Wednesday 25 May. Please complete this eform by responding by Tuesday 31 May 2022.

NAPLAN Extension Granted

This week the flu has hit us with ferocity and we have many children and some staff unable to attend school. As a result, we have some Year 3 and Year 5's who have been unable to complete their NAPLAN tests or attend the catch up sessions being held. VCAA has consulted with ACARA about the circumstances that we and other schools are currently facing with COVID as well. In reply to my request for an extension, I received this reply.

"In these circumstances, please be advised that NAPLAN online tests may now be administered, where this can be accommodated by the school, up to and including Friday, 27 May 2022."

Turn on the SUN!!   Our Sun Sails Fly High!!!

Our Sun Sails courtesy of the Victorian Government COVID safe plans have arrived!!

With the installation of the all important shade sails, our shade sails outside Learning Space 2 and right next to the construction of our new hall is complete.

So now we just need to dial up some sunshine, so we can enjoy this space. We hope to do further landscaping in this area when our hall is completed. It will be a lovely new space for our children and community to enjoy. We hope you like the colour.

Multipurpose Hall Update - Week 10

In week 10 we see lots of activity on site. The underground work of storm water drains, sewerage connections, electrical cables and gas lines are being finalised. Work has commenced on the foundations for our building. Our school corridor provides an ideal viewing area for all the action. It is exciting to see how big this building is going to be!

Whatever you do on Saturday, watch Dreamtime at the G or the elections as Australia decides or switch off and head out, please remember to grab a Democracy Sausage!!

Happy weekend.
