Visual Art News

Mrs Christine Larsen

After many days of rain, we were finally graced with a sunny day last Wednesday, just in time for the Year 10 Visual Art excursion. Students participated in a walking tour along the Brisbane River for the purpose of documenting the cityscape and urban environment through photography and drawing for their current practical task which combines, photography, linoprinting and mixed media. The students, accompanied by Ms Wilken, Ms Sheedy and Ms Barlow set off from New Farm, travelling along the River Walk and finishing up at Howard Smith Wharves. The second part of the excursion included a visit to the Museum of Brisbane, where they viewed the current exhibition, “Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane”, which presents more than 100 historical and contemporary depictions of the Brisbane region, representing our ever-changing city through new eyes from the past, to the present and into the future.

The official opening of the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art took place on Saturday 28 May.  Dino Lopes (Old Boy 2021) was acknowledged as one of only 37 students to have received an excellence award from over 500 entries from around the state. The exhibition runs until 21 August at the Gallery of Modern Art. We congratulate Dino for this tremendous achievement as well as his teacher, Ms Julia Wilken for guiding him through his Senior Visual Art studies.
