Iso-Walkathon 2020

Hi Parents,

Time for the family to dust off their favourite sneakers, exercise gear / fancy dress and join in the College spirit in this year’s self-guided MCA Family Walkathon 2020.

A number of families have already registered on TryBooking after our initial email – thanks so much – let’s keep the momentum building, spread the word and have some fun and family time in the lead up to end of term.

As you may be aware, in the absence of the traditional MCA Walkathon due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the P&F and MCA are offering all families the opportunity to participate in the MCA Family Walkathon 2020 which aims to celebrate family, provide some normality and highlight the Marist Spirit.

Who: An invitation to participate is extended to the whole family and you are asked to register at https://www.trybooking.com/BJUNC

When: In your own time, between Saturday, 13 June and Sunday, 21 June.

Course: It is up to you! Although the traditional Walkathon is 10km, it is up to your family how far you walk with the emphasis on spending time together as opposed to clocking up the kms. Please keep within the COVID-19 restrictions and do not gather in large groups or meet on the College Grounds.

Official App: To track your steps, the event will include a pedometer/step challenge over the nine-day period. App:  PacerWalking Group name:  MCA Family Walkathon 2020 (Set up under “Corporate” on the app) Walking Group

(Instructions: click on link, load app. Once app is loaded click on the link again and it will take you to MCA Family Walkathon 2020 – it lives in the “Explore” then “Corporate” part of the app)

Dress: To keep the tradition alive, we ask that participants wear something Marist (hat, shirt, socks etc.) with fancy dress (wigs, crazy hats, moustaches, superhero/animal outfits etc.) encouraged!

Photos: Important – we would like to showcase the College Spirit on college media outlets - Once your family has walked their walk, please send a photo of your family participating in the walk (as conservative or zany as you would like) to community@marash.qld.edu.au by Monday, June 22.

Prizes: Definitely Yes - there will be prizes based on fancy dress, most steps / longest distance, random selection & whatever catches the judge’s eye. There will be prizes for the most enthusiastic!

Fundraising / Cost:  Unlike the traditional Walkathon, there is no cost or fundraising required. However, if you would like to make a donation to the Fees Assistance Fund, to be distributed by the College to assist with fee payments for families struggling with the implications of COVID-19, an option is available via the TryBooking link at the time of booking.

We look forward to seeing as many families as possible limbering up for a week/day/hour of walking, together with your family.

Enjoy & have fun!

The P&F Team
