Grevillea House

As I reflect on this term and all its complexity, I feel a great sense of achievement on behalf of our Grevillea family. We faced the unknown with great resilience, dignity and strength. During the period of remote and flexible learning, our staff worked tirelessly to ensure that all of our students felt connected to their learning. Our Grevillea teachers continued to provide a culture of high expectations for our students and adapted much of their practice to suit this new remote way of learning.

Our staff reflections about this time show how much we have learnt about teaching, learning, our students and ourselves. At a recent House meeting, Grevillea teachers reported that:

many of our students have true agency over their learning

and

regular and varied feedback supports student learning growth

Our amazing teachers have also changed the way that they deliver learning now that we are back at school. Many of the ICT platforms used during Term 2 have found their way to our classrooms, because they provide avenues of success for our students. I extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful Grevillea teachers.

My House Leadership Team ensured that students felt a sense of continued belongingness to Grevillea house through meetings with our student leaders and by creating many activities for students to participate in while we were away. Our famous 'trick shot' competition was overwhelmingly popular and after a lot of deliberation we congratulated Suchara 10G for a first place and Bekim 7G and Rahmatullah 7G for second and third places respectively. My sincere gratitude and thanks go to Ms Crawford, Mrs Confait, Ms Ellison and Mr Anderson for their tireless efforts to ensure that we were still connected while we were away.

I would also like to thank you, our parents and guardians, who stood by us and supported our efforts and your students, during this unprecedented time. It was your generous and selfless collaboration with our leadership team that resulted in most of our students staying well connected with their learning, their teachers and each other.

Finally, I would like to take the opportunity on your behalf to wish Alysha Confait well as she leaves at the end of this term to go on family leave. Danielle Vrondou will take up the role as Assistant House Leader whilst Alysha is on leave. I would like to welcome her to the Grevillea House Leadership team. We very much look forward to working with Danni.

I wish you all a very safe and restful break and look forward to sharing our news with you again next term.
