From Jezabel J:
Hello Fellow Falcons,
I’m here to give you another reason to TREAT YOURSELF. In our lovely PD Rebecca Burton presented excellent resources I would like to share with you all. The focus was on social and emotional learning and how staff can model such skills for our students. SEL includes skills such as labeling feelings correctly, understanding social cues, and inhibiting impulses that are not appropriate for the situation. If staff is lacking in such skills the students suffer as well. Research shows that when adults are stressed their interactions with their children or students become more cruel. Also, if we are modeling improper stress management skills, young minds follow the improper modeling as well whether intentional or not. Self-care is an essential factor in SEL. So treat yourself to that cup of coffee, go to that concert, or binge watch that show. It will benefit our students!
The attached article elaborates on how we as educators can develop our own social and emotional skills to consequently teach our students. Hope you all have a great week!
