Orientation Days

Beginning a new school or moving to the following year's level is an exciting time, although it can cause much anxiety in the heart of a new student because of all the unknowns – Will I make any friends? How will I find all of my classes? Whom do I ask if I have a question?" "What will my new classroom look like?"

Last Monday, we hosted Orientation Day for Year 7 2022, and later in the term, we will have our Primary Orientation Day. These days are designed to guide them in answering all of these questions.

Our Orientation Program has four main objectives:

1) Introducing students to life at Clayfield College

2) Familiarising students with their new surroundings

3) Recognising and getting to know our staff

 4) Building connections with other students and staff of the school

At Clayfield College, we aim to support every child to feel safe and secure and have a sense of belonging at school. With our careful planning and school resources, orientation should relieve anxieties and prepare new students for success.

For our Year 6 students already at the College, we recognise the conclusion of your Primary School journey and the beginning of your Secondary one is a special time in your life. To this end, we organised some exciting transition activities, which began on Sunday with a Fun and Friendship Afternoon, led by our Year 12 College, Sports and Boarding Captains.

It was an afternoon of fun as they took part in an "Amazing Race" around the campus, intending to familiarise themselves with the Secondary section of the College. With each clue came an activity where small groups of students problem solved and worked collaboratively.

Afterwards, they enjoyed a swim in the pool and a BBQ dinner to end the afternoon. Our Year 7 boarders stayed overnight at the Boarding House in preparation for an Orientation Day on Monday. The girls enjoyed a busy day of activities led by the Secondary staff and their Year 10 Buddies. In the evening, families of Year 7 students were invited to an Information Session with a Pastoral and Academic focus. The Heads of Department from Secondary School provided information about the year ahead for each subject area.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Emma Dixon and Rebecca Tsoumbaras in our Enrolments Department, who helped plan and organise the events. My gratitude also to Justin Desmarchelier, our College Captains for 2022; Mia Felsman and Alice Gardener, and the Secondary teaching staff who gave the girls a memorable beginning to their upcoming journey of school life.
