I thank the Year 12 students and parents/carers for the manner in which they have supported and contributed to our school community over the last 13 years of school at NCS. I recognise that the last few weeks have been challenging as Year 12 students successfully navigated online trial examinations and aimed to finish their schooling well. I am very proud of their accomplishments, demonstrating how resilient they are. I want to also take this opportunity to thank parents/carers for the support you have shown to us. I also want to thank all the teachers who worked hard in preparing you before your trial examinations.
Although Year 12s were unable to celebrate with a range of enjoyable events (including a graduation assembly) for their last week of school, they assisted by hosting the last school assembly online on Friday. I trust that students were challenged and encouraged by Miss Beazeley’s and Cheyenne’s testimonies especially in how Jesus has transformed their lives. For a bit of fun, Year 12s asked the teachers one of the silliest questions which is ‘Would you rather sit on a banana or a can of beetroot?’. We were able to play Kahoot!, designed by the Year 12s, to see how well we know them. Eva D (first), Mr Petts and Maddie P were our Kahoot! champions.
I have been encouraged by our Year 12 prefects who are passionate about raising the awareness of persecuted Christians around the world through ‘Voice of The Martyrs’. Please join us as we have our own ‘NCS Family Camp Out’ and pray for the persecuted Christians in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
We look forward to celebrating with our Year 12 students and parent/carers after the HSC examination on Thursday 2 December at Coolangatta Estate in a combined graduation presentation and dinner. Year 12 students are also invited to join us in our end-of-year celebration at Jamberoo Action Park on Thursday 9 December.
As the HSC examination commences on 9 November, please continue to pray for our Year 12 (and Year 11) students. Pray that they will not lose heart and that their eyes will fix on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Mrs Meek
Well done to our primary tutors and instrumental students who have continued learning their instruments online this term. Some students have been logging on from school, others from home. Just like doing school online, this poses some logistical challenges, and requires an extra level of dedication and patience. We commend the efforts of our students and tutors! Mrs Lawrence
In the past two weeks, Year 1 and Year 2 classes have been very busy learning at home and at school. We have started each day with devotions, singing, dancing and praying and thanking God for His great love for us.
We have continued growing as mathematicians; learning about area, fractions, division and 3D shapes. As readers, we have shared fiction and non-fiction texts and completed responses to these. In writing, we enjoyed listening to some fairy tales, then created fractured fairy tales of our own.
For Fruit and Veg month, we made fruit salad (Yum!) and produced our own still-life art works of fruit and veg, based on the work of Edward Ladell (a famous British painter). As scientists, we have been exploring 'Clever Changes', carrying out investigations to learn about the properties of materials and how these can be changed (with popcorn, toast and chocolate - THAT’s been fun!).
While remote learning has had its challenges, we are becoming more resilient as we help each other grow and learn together.
Well done to all those busy students and parents! You have worked so well under very tricky circumstances. There has been some amazing learning in this time, particularly where technology is concerned, and it was not just the students who had to stretch their grey matter beyond its limits.
Stage 2, had some particularly great moments which we would love to share. They have been very busy at their desks making posters, colouring and completing book pack activities, art, creating craft for Father’s Day and making slides to present their learning. We have all thoroughly enjoyed connecting in Google Meets and have shared many things about our own homes, pets, and families.
It has been wonderful to see the resilience of the students grow and we have also admired their ability to appreciate others and be thankful to God, focusing on the good God brings. Philippians 4:8 ‘Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and good, think on these things.'
Thank you all for your amazing effort to help guide your child’s learning and may you all enjoy your very well-earned break. Here is a snippet of all the amazing work they have done this term!
Electrical Safety Week
In Week 8, Stage 3 students worked through a variety of tasks as part of Electrical Safety Week. We learnt important key messages such as 'Water and electricity don't mix', 'Avoid overloading electrical power-boards', 'Don't play near electrical substations or overhead powerlines' and 'Don't poke metal objects into toasters or other electrical devices'. Our students made videos or posters to highlight these important messages.
The Silkworm Life Cycle
6F have been watching the progression of the Silkworm Life Cycle. We watched as our silkworm eggs turned white and then hatched into tiny black caterpillars. They have eaten lots of mulberry leaves and are growing bigger daily. In another week, we should start to see them create their silk cocoons. Then in early term 4, we hope to have our very own silk moths, which will lay a new set of silkworm eggs.
Living off the land
Our topic for Science this term is 'Living off the Land' which gives students opportunities to investigate how and why food and fibre are produced in managed environments, using sustainable methods. We started growing our own sprouts in the classroom which we will continue next term. The unit culminates in students following the design and production process by designing, preparing and producing a healthy dish, considering safety, nutrition and sustainability.

During our Creative Arts lessons online, Stage 3 has been learning about portraits. We have looked at the style and techniques of different artists and have used those styles to create our own portraits. Mrs Ellery created a virtual Art Gallery to display our artworks. Different displays have been added as we tried various styles and techniques. The students have been encouraged to occasionally visit the Art Gallery and stroll through to look at any new exhibitions. We have even included a sofa so that you can sit and really enjoy the works.
Have you had a chance to complete any of the challenges in the NCS Virtual House Sport Comp? Don't delay as you won't want to miss out on the fun or the points for your house!
Miss Bignell has prepared a little update on the Competition in the video below.
