Acting Principal's Report

SLP Changes

For many years we have sent Student Learning Plans (SLPs) home each semester where we report on your Childs progress towards their learning goals. We have decided to alter the terminology for a few reasons.

Firstly we want to make it very clear that the goals set each term are determined based on the assessment that we do, but that these goals are not set in stone. It is our hope that parents and carers will come into the SSG meetings with ideas and changes they deem necessary and our teachers will work with them to determine the best goals for each individual child. We also want our secondary students to have input into their goals and develop a goal that really reflects on their learning needs and wants.

We will be changing the name of the SLPs to reflect this. They will now be called ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) as the hope is that together we produce a document that is individualised to the specific needs of your child.

Changes to Concord School Staffing

Jane Black has officially moved into the acting Secondary 9/10 Team Leader role. Leesa Fatone will commence in SJJ on the first day of term 3 and Jess Mitchell will work as the digital technologies teacher.

Deanna Cassar will also be commencing parental leave in term 3. We have advertised this position and will make sure that we are placing the best possible candidate into the classroom.

School Review

At the time of writing we have already run our first community forum. We did run it during the school day so were not expecting a large turnout but we are hoping for greater input during the second session held Thursday the 13th of June 2019 from 6:30-7:30pm.

The evening gives you a great opportunity to meet other Concord families and spend some constructive time working through some fun thinking tools to better equip the school to develop a strategic plan that reflects our students, families and staff needs. We will be gathering data using structured brainstorms, hot dotting, affinity diagrams and an Imagineering tool.

It would be fantastic to see as many families as possible so that we can work together to develop a truly functional document.

Parent Helpers

A great big thankyou to all the parents who have completed the parent helper induction training sessions. You are now qualified to support in our school and we are very keen to have you support us in the classrooms. If you would like to volunteer please talk to your Childs classroom teacher and organise times and activities that you can support us with.

As this is the final non section based newsletter for the term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff for a wonderful first semester at Concord this year. I would also like to take the time to express the pride I have in our students who really uphold our values and expectations on a daily basis.

I look forward to continuing the work that supports our student to ‘be the best they can be’. In 2019 and beyond.

Principal Award- Dakota Bramich

Dakota arrives at school with a positive attitude and is happy to greet familiar staff and friends. She has shown a huge improvement in her attendance and effort in the classroom this year. Dakota is making good choices by listening to her teachers more frequently and, with encouragement, is much more engaged in lessons.

Congratulations Dakota on this well-deserved achievement.
