Kids Teaching Kids

St Albans Secondary College was one of hundreds of schools and more than 13,000 students across Australia who participated in the 2017 Kids Teaching Kids (KTK) Week, 4-8 September across Australia. The aim of KTK is for students to teach each other about issues such as climate change, water, waste, conservation, energy, drought, habitat destruction, population and pollution to bring about positive environmental change.

Kindly sponsored by Brimbank City Council and organised by their Environmental Education Officer, Ms Karina King, St Albans Secondary College was honoured to be the host school. The participating schools included: Derrimut Primary School, Overnewton Anglican Community College, Sunshine North Primary School, St Lawrence Primary School and Catholic Regional College St Albans. Councillor Borg officially opened the event and Kids Teaching Kids Co-Founder, Mr Richard Wood congratulated the students for being inspiring environmental leaders. The highlight of the opening ceremony was Derrimut Primary school students engaging “sustainable food song” performed to “Man in the Mirror”, supported by their teacher, Ms Helen Cooper. Our Advance class did a fantastic job as peer leaders as for their community service for the Dukes Award. It was so exciting for the students to be part of an event where ‘kids teach kids’ about the environment – and see just what kids can do when they put their hearts and minds into making a difference.
