Year 3 and 4 Learning Community

Solar power!

Earlier this term 34BBK competed in the Model Solar Vehicle Challenge (better known as the solar boat competition) at Scienceworks. Anais, Devlin and Kiya were our most successful team, making it to the final eight in Metro Melbourne (and the final sixteen statewide) and against some very fast competition, all teams did very well.

This is the culmination of sixteen weeks of work for our students, beginning with learning how to solder; design circuits; harness the power of the sun; test different circuits and boat designs; all the way through to building and racing solar powered boats, with no adult hands to help!

Year 4 Art Work

In Term 4 Year Level 3/4 students have been exploring Banksy's Artwork. Banksy is a street artist based in England.  His real name is unknown and as recently as this year his identity was also anonymous - until a film maker happened to meet him. The students used compressed charcoal to create a background and then used stencils and spray paint to create an image.

Year 3 and 4 Camps

Camps have been a highlight of Term Four for the 3-4 Learning Community. Class 3B enjoyed their camp to Warburton in the Upper Yarra Reservoir, while BBK grappled with the elements on their camp to Anglesea. The combined class 4J/4K camp to Walkerville augmented the 'Human Being and the Animal' Main Lesson students have undertaken, providing myriad opportunities to observe animals in their natural habitat.

Students across the 3-4 sector have risen to the challenge of undertaking projects specific to their learning - 3B made a marimba as part of an emphasis on construction using raw materials; BBK designed, built and then tested solar boats; 4J and 4K completed their exploration of Nordic History and Culture by creating shields decorated with traditional Norse design.

The vibrancy and diversity of our school community was celebrated at the Community Fair earlier this term and the 3-4 team would like to acknowledge all those who made a significant contribution to this event. We wish you a safe and restorative summer and look forward to seeing you in 2016.

34BBK Anglesea Camp

34BBK finished off a busy year with an exciting 3 day camp at Anglesea YMCA. Students took part in many challenging activities, including canoeing, giant swing, ocean swimming, fishing and hut building and also had a MASSIVE water fight on the beach. We returned covered in salt and sand, ecstatic and exhausted.
