Community Fair

All the hard work paid off. The school community provided a day to remember of Sunday 18th October. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was electric.

The day was busy with lots of families from Collingwood and beyond attending to show their support for our special event.

There was the chance to play, eat, drink and bid as the Community Fair group put on a range of events and activities to suit everyone.

Apart from all of the different yummy food and drink options, the highlights on the day included: the class performance; the amazing student art work; the bands; the auction and the eclectic stalls.

The school would like to thank everyone who helped and supported the Community Fair and the Art Show. A particular mention to the members of the Community Fair committee who worked tirelessly to make the fair a success and to all those students, families and teachers who helped and supported. THANK YOU.

The Art Show

The student art show was a spectacular event that drew a huge crowd during the Community Fair. A special night was held for friends and families of our students the Friday before.

A piece of work was carefully selected for every student in Prep to Year 12. The VCE Studio Art students' portfolios were on display with many of these works being highlights.  Our Fitzroy High School students who take part in VCE Studio Arts also displayed their work.

A special thank you goes out to all the students, helpers and teachers who helped to create such a vibrant and exciting showcase of our students' talents.

Coding Week

We hear that next year there will be planning for the introduction of many new and exciting curriculum areas, including coding.

At Collingwood College we feel we are ahead of the field. The Secondary school students will use some of their mathematics time during December to learn to code by using a number of software packages, including Scratch.

We are hoping that the students really enjoy the activities, and that there will be a much bigger focus during 2016 as we build our knowledge and skills. Our grades 3-6 already have some students who really enjoy learning using this software.

A special thank you to Hannah Young and Greg Giannis (Parent) for helping to start this initiative at school.

Second Hand Book Sale

A special thank you to Alina Allery in the Library for organising a second hand book sale for students in grades 6-12.

The second hand book sale provides an economical and environmentally sustainable way for students to trade books.

Not all books have been sold yet. If you have books you no longer require there are families in our school who would really appreciate a helping hand through donations. If you wish to donate a book please ask your child to see Alina. Thank you.

Welfare support for books

Our school partner for welfare support is called 20thMan and they are based in Footscray. They support needy families with books, stationery and school supplies.

A health care card and a referral from our Wellbeing team leader Gareth Rego is required to use the service. The referral and a book list is taken to 20thMan in January. They will issue books on the day or supply a cheque for the books. Please see Gareth Rego for more information.
