Year 7 Camp/ Lions Youth of the Year

Year 7 Camp

In the second week of school for 2020, Year 7 students from CSC headed off on their big year level camp. We canoed, rock wall climbed, abseiled and flew down a flying fox, just to name a few activities. Best of all, we not only caught up with old friends, we made new friends.

Set in the rolling hills of Campaspe Downs just south of Kyneton, PGL Adventure Camp had great outdoor activities for all of us to try out. While we always had the option to try the activity when we felt ready, nearly all of us tried nearly everything, even most of the CSC staff had a go. By far the most challenging had to be the ‘Leap of Faith’, where we climbed a huge pole, while wearing safety equipment, and jumped into thin air to grab a trapeze bar. A couple of Year 7’s actually managed to grab it! However, most of us missed.

Check out a few pictures from our 3 day adventure away.

Lions Youth of the Year

Once again, Year 12 CSC students participated in the Lions Youth of the Year. This year saw two of our School Captains; Niamh O’Connor Smith and Paddy Leevers participate at the Castlemaine Lions Club. Both students presented exceptional speeches 5mins long. Niamh was the overall winner and has progressed to the next level.

Niamh discussed why there is an urgent need for young people, and all people, to Strike for Climate Change, and how our leaders are not representing their citizens and hearing the call for action to reduce carbon emissions and care for our globe.

Paddy raised awareness of a Norwegian company’s proposal to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight. He presented arguments against the proposal; environmental and the possible impact to the Australian way of life.

Further to this, Niamh and Paddy responded to impromptu questions and an interview process. A very thorough and demanding process, but one that supported our school captains in further improving their public speaking skills. CSC would like to thank our local Lions Club for the generous opportunity they provided to support our student’s learning.
