Teaching and Learning

Welcome to the 2020 school year at St. Joseph’s College. To the 943 students that have started the school year with us, we wish you every success this year.

Welcome to our new students

Last week we welcomed our new Year 7’s along with many other new students from other year levels into our Learning Community. We are very excited about welcoming your child into our school and their future. We know that they are going to take advantage of all that we offer.  I am sure you share our determination in seeing that they are happy and successful.

Welcome to our new teachers

Last week we were very pleased to welcome 10 new teachers to our school. I would like to introduce you to Mr Abbas (Physics & Maths), Mr Beck (Science & Maths), Mr Campbell (Humanities), Mrs Devitt (Religion & English), Mr Jennings (Maths & Computing), Mr Williams (Physics & Maths), Mrs Oliver (Humanities & English), Ms Pike (Science), Mrs Goulding (Learning Enhancement, English & VCAL) and Mr Howe (HPE & Humanities).

Camps and Retreats

On Tuesday we saw off our Year 7’s, their teachers and support staff on the bus to Marysville and on Wednesday our Year 12’s left for their retreat at Howmans Gap. Both of these experiences provide a valuable opportunity for students to get to know each other and form important bonds with each other and staff that will prove invaluable this year and in the future.

We know they will have a great time.

Introducing new programs for 2020

Last year a team of dedicated and experienced teachers worked together to develop the new Applied Learning Program for Year 10 students. This year we are very pleased to introduce the the Applied & Entrepreneurial Learning (AEL) Program that commenced this week. Over 30 students have enrolled in this program for 2020 and this program will provide these students with a pathway that leads them into the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)  or workforce pathway via an Apprenticeship or Traineeship, whilst also providing a range of transdisciplinary skills.

This year we have also launched the Duke of Edinburgh program at St. Joseph’s. Over 50 students across Year 10 will be working to complete the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.

This award is an internationally recognised program for young people, building their skills to equip them for life and work. By creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, get physically active, give service and experience adventure, the Award can play a critical role in their development.
