Galway Theatre Day
On Wednesday of this week, Aitken College hosted the annual Galway Schools Theatre Day. Nine of our students were joined by another fifteen students from Sacred Heart College in Kyneton and Hume Anglican Grammar. In just three hours, the students cast, rehearsed and designed a short Melodrama play. They explored costume, set and lighting design, audio operation and specialised make-up. After such a memorable day, staff and students left discussing ideas for growing the day next year. Thanks to Ms Jacqueline Flood, Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong, Mr Tom Thorneycroft and Miss Natalie Tocci as well as the teachers from the visiting schools for making the day such a worthwhile experience.
Musos At The Mallard
The next VET Music Industry Night is upon us. On Monday 9 September, twenty of our Year 11 and Year 12 Music students will take over The Spotted Mallard in Sydney Road, Brunswick to present some of the work they have prepared for assessment. Unfortunately, the venue is only big enough for the families of the students in the class, so tickets are not available unless you can muscle your way onto one of the family tables. We wish them the very best for what may be their final public performance at the College.
VCE Monologue Exam Night
Like the Music students, our Year 12 Theatre Studies students are in the final stages of preparation for their major assessment, the Monologue Examination. Our students will be assessed in the first week of next term and on Thursday 12 September, they invite you along to see an in-progress performance of their work. The evening will commence at 7.00pm in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre and will conclude with the opportunity for audience members to ask questions and provide feedback on their efforts. There will be a number of staff there undertaking a mock assessment for the students and will also give them feedback in the days following. All are welcome and no tickets are required.
VCE Media Showcase
Our Media Studies students have recently submitted their major projects, in most cases, short films. We would like an opportunity to share their work with the College community as well, so will present two lunchtime screenings. While these are primarily for other students, parents are welcome to join us on Wednesday 18 September and Thursday 19 September. Please make sure you sign in at Reception before making your way to the auditorium.
Thank You for The Music
Two thirds of the tickets for this year’s Cumberland Concert have now been snapped up. Unfortunately, some people have not followed the instructions on the ticket limits. We have just over 850 tickets available to be shared between around 170 families. In fairness to all families and to ensure everyone has access to seats, we have to enforce these limits. Therefore, each family is limited to a total of five tickets, across the two performances, not five per performance. Some families have received an email this week letting them know that their tickets will be cancelled, and they will need to re-book. A reminder that this year’s concert, with the Year 6 classes involved will commence at the earlier time of 6.30pm on Tuesday 17 September and then again on Thursday 19 September. If you are not attending one of the two nights, students must be collected no later than 8.00pm.
