One of the Church readings for last week was about “running with perseverence the race that is set before us – keeping our eyes on Jesus the perfecter of our faith.”
At the start of the pandemic we were told this would be a marathon, not a sprint. This has turned out to be true. While it is not yet over, we are beginning to experience life in a more ‘normal’ manner. Still, it is true to say that COVID has a long tail – not just in its health impact for some people who suffer from long COVID, but for its impact on society and the economy, and for its impact on our general well-being as we seek to adjust to and integrate the last few years.
This is an example of a race that the whole planet has run with perseverence – each in our own way.
Over and above this, we all have particular and unique races to endure, and often just as we finish one marathon it seems another one begins! In all these challenges, the writer to the Hebrews is reminding us to be slow and steady, making choices that bring life to ourselves and to others, as we are inspired and strengthened by the Spirit in Jesus.
May you have food for the journey.
