Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report
Child safety
With the changes in staffing in Student Services and the Health Centre we will be meeting with the staff in these areas regularly (once a fortnight) to share any concerns or issues in relation to Child Safety and make sure our staff in these areas are aware of any relevant information in relation to Child Safety.
Last week and next week the Child Safety Team have added additional meetings to work in depth with each of the Child Safety Standards, looking closely at the requirements for schools and addressing the questions for each of the standards:
- What are we doing currently to meet this standard?
- What do we need to be doing to meet this standard?
It is important we take time and work through this process carefully to ensure we are doing all we can to keep students safe. We will identify areas needing more work and implement appropriate strategies where needed.
Child Safety is such an important area. We continue to ask parents/guardians/carers and students to contact the College if there are any areas of concern or that we need to address with anything in regards to child safety.
Vaping
We are aware vaping is unfortunately common among teenagers and we are continuing to work very hard in making sure this is not happening on campus. We have increased the number of vape sensors around the school and we desire to work together with parents/guardians/carers for the health of all students, assisting them to not be drawn into this harmful and unlawful habit.
Assumption Mass
Monday 15 August 2022 is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Feast is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church and will be celebrated with a whole school Mass.
Nazareth Day Celebrations
Looking ahead, we will be having a whole day of activities, celebrations, awards and a talent quest on Thursday 18 August 2022. There are no classes on this day as we celebrate the gift and blessing of being in this Nazareth Community.
The following Thursday 25 August 2022 the whole school will celebrate our community with a Mass.
Uniform and Punctuality
We are grateful to the vast majority of students who attend schools and classes consistently punctually and wear our uniform with pride and as required. A reminder that the first bell for homeroom rings at 8.35 am and students need to be in class by 8.40 am. The wearing of the uniform and also attending school and classes punctually are an action of respect towards other members of our community and part of preparation for life after school. We ask parents/guardians/carers to please work as a team in this area of respect as we aim to form young people ready to take place and serve in the world after school.
Subject Selection
At this time of the year students are looking ahead as they are working on subject selection for 2023. Please contact the College if there are any questions in this area, as we would be very happy to assist if we can. We also encourage students to continue to work consistently as we enter into the middle weeks of the school term and to come and see staff if there is anything we can do to support them.
God Bless
Mr Justin Duckett
