Principal's Report

Our College is a very vibrant community, with many activities and events happening each and every day, but I would like to highlight a recent student event. My congratulations and commendations go to the students who performed onstage in the drama production of Ignite last week in our Hall. The students were able to showcase their talents by performing and engaging the audience in their performance. It was a highly emotional, dramatic piece, but delivered with the right dose of sensitivity and humour.

Last Monday night on a cold and wet evening we held our 2023 Subject Selection and Course Information night, but the weather certainly didn’t dampen the attendance or the curiosity around subject offerings and choices. It was great to see so many families on site interacting with our teaching staff as students prepare for their pathways for next year. This can also be a challenging time as students select subjects and there can be many discussions at home about these choices. I encourage you to seek the support and assistance of our staff if you require additional information.

Tomorrow we acknowledge the World Day against the Trafficking of Humans. There will be many symbolic acts around the College and in various houses, blue hearts to signify The United Nations theme for this year of The Blue Heart Campaign, which highlights the sadness of those who are trafficked, while reminding us of the cold-heartedness of those who buy and sell fellow human beings. We care about and are committed to raising awareness of the issue of human trafficking and modern slavery because we believe that every single person is made in the image and likeness of God and is, therefore graced with dignity. Human trafficking dehumanises people, turning them into objects and commodities. Our hope is to see people restored into the fullness of who God created them to be.

As of July, Victoria adopted new Child Safe Standards to align with the national standards and to ensure all institutions working with young people prioritise their safety, protection, and empowerment. The College has implemented the necessary policy changes and will continue to work with students and our community in this space.

We still also have the ongoing challenges COVID-19 presents and we will continue to navigate our way through this space. We will continue to follow the health recommendations around ventilation, masks and encourage social distancing, where possible.

God Bless.
