Principal's Report

What a term it has been for all in our community. As always at BPS we have so much happening around our school. Athletics Day, Wellbeing Wednesday, Maths Fun Day, Foundation STEM morning and of course so much more to come - including the always amazing Book Fun Day! I hope everyone has started to sort out their costumes, please see more information from Mrs Tribolet in this newsletter.

STUDENT SAFETY

As Spring approaches and more children are walking and riding to school it is important to remind your children about Stranger Danger and general safety as they travel to and from school.

Please speak with your children about actions to take should they experience such incidents. At school, as part of the Wellbeing Programs, teachers discuss various situations with students and how to keep themselves safe from harm. Some tips for parents are, make sure children walk in groups, stay on the main walking paths, walk home at the same time as other school families, discuss where other families live on the walk home if they ever needed, come to school at around the same time as others and utilise TheirCare if an early start or late finish is required.

The Department of Education has an Emergency Management system where alerts are recorded and shared with neighbouring schools so that all local communities are aware. Local police are also extra vigilant when a report is made. We must work together as a community to keep each other safe especially in and around our school environment.

Safety for kids is a great resource for proactive ways to discuss safety when out and about.

ATHLETICS DAY

Thank you to Merissa for all of her work organising this event. It proved to be the decision was right to cancel! Thanks to Simone, Dani and the 5/6 team who have helped prepare things with Merissa. Check the link below if you haven't seen some of the pictures from the day.

MATHS FUN DAY

We are looking forward to having an amazing Maths Fun Day today. Teachers have planned some great activities for the day and I am sure the children will be excited to share them with you.

CURRICULUM DAY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAY – ADVANCED WARNINGS

As communicated in previous newsletters we have our next Curriculum day and school-wide Professional Practice Days coming up. The Professional Practice Day is held on Friday 26th August 2022. The intention is to minimize disruption by backing it onto the existing Curriculum Day on Monday 29th August. It also allows the school to utilise the two consecutive days to inform work that we have started this term. It also gives us some flexibility to cater for our part-time staff who may not work on one of those days, avoiding additional disruption to those classes. TheirCare will be advertising a program for the two days.

I also want to inform the community that the School Council has approved for Term Four the school-wide Professional Practice Day to held on Monday 19th December 2022. The intention is to minimize disruption by backing it onto the existing Curriculum Day on Tuesday 20th December. This means that all students will finish the school year on Friday 16th December.  TheirCare will be advertising a program for the two days.

For our Year 6 students graduation will happen on Wednesday 7th December and the Cheers and Tears celebration on Friday 16th December.

I hope that by advising the Term Four dates now, this gives families plenty of time to prepare.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 per cent of parents have received an email to invite them to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 15-20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September.

Please speak to your me if you would like more information about the survey.
