MERCY CAMPUS

We have had an active start to Term 3 at the Mercy Campus. We are only a few weeks in, and already so much has happened.

IMMERSION DAYS

We have seen the commencement of subject-based Immersion Days. These days give different learning areas the opportunity to showcase their subject and also complete some activities that are difficult to do during a normal timetabled day.

In week 1, students had the Humanities 'Be A Voice Day'. The morning saw the students engaged in a community panel of guest speakers and representatives from different groups within Sunraysia such as the Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Community Council, The Christie Centre and the Mildura Rural City Council. After hearing from the panel members and being allowed to ask questions, students spent time on their Humanities project about standing up for and supporting minority groups in our community.

In week 3, students were immersed in Italian culture for a day during Languages Week.  Among the many activities, students made Carnevale masks, built DaVinci Flying Machines and played Bocce. The students were treated to an Italian feast of pizza and pasta for lunch.

Later this term, students have a Circus skill session and PE immersion day to look forward to.

SUBJECT SELECTION

Subject selections are due tomorrow. Students have been provided with support at school to complete this very important part of their educational journey. There have been many emails with guidance from different Learning Areas, an information evening, and the Careers Practitioner has visited the campus to assist with specific questions. If you still have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

MERCY WORKS

Students have been volunteering with Oz Fish – Sunraysia River Repair Bus for the past three weeks at Kings Billabong. Activities have included general weed removal, tree planting, and watering. On August 3, students hopped into Butler’s Creek and helped position rocks in the water to help protect various water species. Students enjoyed the experience of getting in the water and not actually getting wet! –Well, not too wet anyway!
