Visual Arts

Students from Visual Art B, followed the art process to finalise their original and creative compositions for the linocut printmaking unit. Their designs were inspired by the Australian artist Margaret Preston and a natural theme. Some of the artwork was also printed onto calico and hand painted.  Congratulations students.

An introductory task for the Year 10 elective Photography and Film class, involved students learning about the art elements and art principles. To reinforce their understanding, students used their smartphone to take photographs of their immediate surrounding environment, our beautiful College grounds, focusing on how the art elements line or texture, for example, could be creatively captured.

Students used their digital photographs as the basis of the digital collage artwork. Learning basic tools of Adobe Photoshop, students created surreal, fun or scary digital collages.

Arts Committee

On Tuesday 2nd of August, the Arts committee organised a painting tutorial at lunchtime. Students had to follow the paint guru Bob Ross and create masterpieces. It was fun and interactive to get students more involved in Art. With twenty minutes, to paint an ‘island in the wilderness’ with acrylic paint on a canvas, students painted a beautiful horizon of mountains and trees with a sunset sky.  Alika’s artwork is an example of the beautiful work the students were creating. Thank you to our Art teachers for helping us organise this activity.

Congratulations to Year 9 Art students on their wonderful Indigenous-inspired terracotta ceramic cylinders and vessels.  Students used the art process to design their work and then learnt the skill of making a form using the slab technique.  These were fired and then oxide was applied before the second fire to enhance the mark-making and pattern within the sculpture.

In Semester One, Year 7 Art students have been inspired by the American Modernist Artist, Georgia O'Keefe and her paintings of the natural world.  The completed acrylic paintings were designed as macro natural views and were done on canvas boards.  Here are some of the finished paintings.
