WELCOME BACK DARREN PATCHING!

The start of Term 3 has brought back the long-awaited return of our beloved Library staff member, Darren Patching, from Long Service Leave. Mr Patching was welcomed back with open arms from staff and students alike. His intuitive nature, creativity and knack for detail are an asset to our library team. Welcome back Mr P!

TERM 2 (AND 3) CHESS TOURNAMENT

As mentioned in a past newsletter, Rhea Fernandez of Year 8 was the successful champion of our knockout chess tournament in Term 2. At school assembly this week, we were finally able to acknowledge her win in front of our other students and present her with her golden chess badge and canteen voucher.  Congratulations Rhea! That makes it two Terms in a row for our reigning champion, can she make it a hat trick this term?!?! Good luck to all the students who have entered the Term 3 Tournament. Our weekly competitions have gotten off to an exciting start!

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been a huge success in the library so far, with well over 1,800 books read by our Years 7 to 10 students AND twenty-four students finishing the Challenge already!  WOW, what an outstanding effort from our students. There are still thirty days to go before the Challenge officially ends on Friday, 2nd of September. Every student who finishes the fifteen books required, will not only receive a special certificate from the Premier of Victoria BUT will be invited to an exclusive VIP Pizza Party here in the library when it finishes. To award those who’ve finished the Challenge early, we drew one lucky finisher out of a hat at our latest assembly to win a prize. Congratulations to Alisha Ngo of Year 8, who won a $30 Booktopia gift voucher.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES

To celebrate the beginning of the Commonwealth Games, the Library is running a new colouring competition. Pick your favourite sport design sheet from the front desk, colour it in and hand your entry form to any one of our friendly Library Team. One lucky student will win an fantastic prize!

MAKERPSACE ACTIVITIES

The last two weeks have been a buzz of excitement in the library on Tuesdays. Mr Warburton invited the students to create inspirational bookmarks. We had some very uplifting designs created by students.  This week, Mrs Wallace and Mr Patching continued on with Part 2 of their popular Dream Catchers activity. The dedication and imagination shown by our students to this activity has been fantastic!

BOOK WEEK 2022

There are only three weeks until Book Week officially begins! You will notice the signs around the library and start hearing all the buzz and excitement around the shortlisted books for the Book of the Year Awards. As you know, Ms Benson is running the shadow judging book club for the Younger and Older Readers Category. Mrs Scott is showcasing the history of the Book of the Year awards and reading all 6 books in the Picture Book category to the Year 7 and 8 students during our Library lessons. We will then vote on who we think will win and compare it to actual judges’ choices when the winners are announced. Who will win the top pick prize?  We will also have a multitude of activities and competitions on every day in the library during Book Week. We will be showcasing movies each lunchtime in the Reading Room (great books that were turned into film), running Kahoots, a treasure hunt, colouring competition and more! Come in to participate and win prizes or just to see Mrs Scott dressed as a new book character every day. It’s going to be AWESOME!!!!
