City of Greater Dandenong, Respectful Relationships

On Tuesday 19th of July, we had people from Greater Dandenong Youth and Family Services who talked to the Year 12 and 11 VCAL class about respectful, unhealthy and abusive relationships. Our speakers, Cat and Patty, talked about situations and information where we were able to have our opinions about them. Our first activity was having Cat and Patty read out statements and we had to move to either agree or disagree or even in the middle. The next activity we had to do was, in partners, we were handed scenarios and talked amongst each other if it was healthy, unhealthy or abusive. In both activities we were able to say what we thought about each statement and scenario. Overall, this session gave me more of an understanding about the differences between all three types of relationships.

Jasmine N, Year 12

I really enjoyed this as I learnt a lot about my rights, red flags and being an upstander. I learnt about ways the victim can be helped and also how the abuser can grow into a better person. This was really beneficial to me as I have recently had a lot of questions in relating to relationships and now I have a lot more information and learnt about the services available. After today, I am going to contact one of their suggested services, Youthlaw, in relation to respectful relationships.
