Camp Australia

Agnes Moeono

Camp Australia Coordinator

Over the last few weeks of this term Camp Australia students will raise funds to donate to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, to help Indigenous primary school aged children to develop these skills.

Why have we decided to support the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation? We believe that all children have the right to literacy. However in some very remote indigenous communities only 1 in 5 children can read at minimum standard.

Over the past 2 weeks we have discussed why literacy and numeracy is important, the children's understanding of the indigenous culture and also ideas on fundraising. The children have come up with the guessing game (fill a jar with items) and for every guess they will donate money.

Recently the children had decorated our information wall with handprints that were coloured with the aboriginal flag colours.

Donations for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation are welcomed.
